WEAPONS OF CHOICE Posted: April 25, 2002 By Jon Dougherty Pro-gun-rights activists in California are crediting their constituents with helping defeat a state Assembly bill that would have banned new ownership and importation of .50-caliber rifles. A.B. 2222 would have outlawed the sale and ownership of the firearms in the state, as well as certain types of ammunition. The Assembly's Public Safety Committee, in a vote Tuesday, defeated the legislation 4-2 with one abstention. The committee was originally scheduled to vote on the measure April 2, but a spokesman told WND the vote had been delayed. The bill was sponsored by Assemblyman Paul Koretz, D-Hollywood. In a statement, Citizens of America, a California-based pro-gun-rights group that opposed the bill, said it did not normally ask recipients of its electronic updates to contact lawmakers about gun-related issues. But when it came to A.B. 2222, "we didn't think [the opposition campaign] was being done effectively, and therefore [we] jumped in." The group said it "focused on this state bill because of California's enormous political influence." The group said that "laws passed and accepted by the people of California often form the basis of national laws. " That was especially true of gun-control laws, COA said, pointing out that after California adopted so-called "assault weapons" bans, federal lawmakers adopted it in a 1994 crime bill. The bill, if it had passed, would have labeled .50-caliber rifles called "sniper rifles" by political opponents as public nuisances subject to stiff regulation. "Existing law requires, except as specified, for the destruction, as a nuisance, of a machine gun possessed in violation of law," said a summary of the measure. "This bill would similarly require, except as specified, for the destruction, as a nuisance, of a .50-caliber sniper weapon possessed in violation of [the] law." COA recommended that gun-rights supporters contact committee members thanking them for killing the measure. "Oh, the humanity!"
Yea, well...
The survival instinct is an awfully hard thing to ignore -- for some.
"...telling me all is lost."
Is hardly cowardice, gc.
Sounds to me like perhaps you're angry these people tried explaining to you they could read the handwriting on the wall?
They were being as honest with you as any human being could ever ask; and, more than we all have experienced in these recent, wierd times?
There're some of us out here who find no honor, no glory whatsoever being runover by the forces the Californians are having to deal with.
-None-
To do so might even be considered an act of insanity; for, those forces mean to get their way come hell or high water, you must realize.
Now, if that means these forces must first destroy people -- their lives & families -- seize *individual's* property in part or whole?
~Then so be it, as far as they're concerned.
They're more than up to the task, gc.
The *just* fate awaiting those forces must be one so brutal, so cruel as to be an almost inhuman act to inflict it upon them.
Nonetheless, they asked for it; & as such?
Let the chips fall where they may; after, sentence has been carried out.
For those forces then, those who've left that place have sentenced 'em to be, left to themselves.
Let their Utopia begin now, in earnest.
Whatever you do, don't be bitter towards the only ones who give a damn about you, your life & welfare.
For in the bloody end?
When you too, are finally forced to flee the monstrous SOBs?
You're going to need their help getting reestablished & settled -- somewhere.
Your enemies are my/our enemies.
How we deal with those enemies will most certainly vary as wildly as the personalities that're behind the act(s).
...let us be vigilant not to permit the enemy to become ourselves.
Im going to hold you to it. BTW, I always buy dinner for my first time friends.
Doesn't hurt to mention that he gave the jailers a 30% raise after their union gave him a 3 million dollar campaign contribution.
If this is true, could the proposed nickel a cartridge tax currently being considered in committee be used to our advantage? If it passed out of committee and became a ballot issue in Nov. could is be used to bring pissed off gun owners to polls to vote against Davis?
Should gun owners in CA be urging the committee to pass the tax, so that Californian's can vote it down and Davis out?
RE: #28 -- I like it, but it's a little big for home defense, no?
All is not lost!!! Not even in California!!! I am a denizen of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, home of "the most draconian gun laws in the nation." So, I went and got a pistol permit. :^) I dithered for three years about doing this, because I believe gun licensing and the payment of a fee for "the privilege" is an unconstitutional infringement of my RKBA. But finally, I said, what the hay -- it's one more "legal" gun in civilian hands; so I bit the bullet, so to speak.
I got issued a Class A License to Carry a High-Capacity Firearm (my semiautomatic pistol -- Massachusetts hates semiautomatics...). It "only" took four weeks. The "authorities" -- in the case of Massachusetts, my local police chief -- had no reason to deny me; so they had to issue.
In my humble opinion, the best thing that people concerned about the loss of their constitutional rights can do is to go out and exercise them. In this case, get licensed. Hold your nose if you have to do it, but DO IT. And then, get trained: Join your local gun club, and go down to the range and practice regularly. FWIW.
Stay positive, gc4nra. For truly, "all is not lost" as long as there are people willing to take the time and trouble to exercise their constitutional rights. One person at a time. best, bb.
Is this person, "gc4nra" speaking for or on behalf of your organization, The Liberty Belles?
Please get back to me on that one question just as soon as you can, will ya?
thanx.
Then don't re-elect Davis.
