McCarthy said she was a republican but allowed herself to be used in ads on behalf of Mario Cuomo because he was 'good' and was against the death penalty. She called herself a good catholic.....but when it came time to vote for the ban on partial birth abortion, she voted AGAINST the ban.

That vote shows that, despite her loss, she is a craven piece of excrement.

I remember those ads ("I'm a Republican, but I support (Monkey Man) Cuomo"). Her voting record is extremely liberal on most issues, but she has been reelected twice since her initial election in 1996. If Pataki and Bruno had any stones, they would have insisted on that district being redrawn. McCarthy gets much of her victory margin from Cedarhurst, Hempstead and Lakeview, with her opponents NOT getting overwhelming margins in other portions of the south shore. Simply cutting off portions of this changing district would bring it back into the GOP fold.
