OK, it seems that CNN is now finally getting on the ball, based on your post above.
Eyewitness on FNC now saying something about a "sub tank" (?) exploding next door to the APEX building. First report of this explosion was at 11:29AM this morning.

April 25, 2002, 12:22 PM EDT A noontime explosion rocked a street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, injuring at least 50 people and partially collapsing a building, authorities said.
Police sources said the explosion appeared to be caused by a boiler explosion either in a building that houses the Apex Technical School or a sign company next door on West 19th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Federal officials said there was no sign of terrorism.
It was just a really loud noise, said Stuart Markowitz, who runs the education department at the nearby Apex Technical School. Some of our windows did get blown out.
All students in the school were safely evacuated, he said. Initial reports that the collapse took place at the school were not true, he said.
The school, where more than half the students are foreign-born, offers training in such fields as welding, automotive repair, refrigeration, air conditioning, and appliance technology.
More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene. Paramedics were treating the injured on the street and some were taken away in ambulances. The seriousness of the injuries was not known and no fatalities were reported.
Some witnesses reported seeing gas being brought into the technical school's building prior to the explosion. People several blocks away said their offices were shaken by the incident.
Police cordoned off the area in case of a secondary explosion. The school is located at 121 W. 19th St.

he is saying it was next door, not at the schoolReminds me of the Weathermen explosion not far from there, about 30 years ago.
I think that one leveled not only the townhouse where the bombmaker was "working," but the one next door too.
But I'm guessing this one's just an accident.

I know, that one phone witness sounds totally ignorant. Rick Leventhal, getting close...spoke with witness across the street, very loud blast, cloud of gray smoke, no fire...most recent injury total is 50, most are walking injured. Imho, there will be more.

Just imagine how the people of NYC and the NYFD and NYPD must feel right now. God bless them....When the first reports on FOX came through, they said "Explosion in Lower Manhattan" and I thought I was going to puke.
As a 9/11 survivor, I thought that a homicide bomb-ber finally struck down here.

6 people current at St. Vincents Hospital. Up to 3 dozen being treated at scene.
NYC people are hording the place. Area going to lockdown to keep out the gawkers.

It's a shame that we have to still remain so nervous that something is going to happen.
