The mammal, Eomaia scansoria, might have scampered up a tree as a feathered dinosaur ran past. Or, more likely, ran up the trees from the feathered dinosaurs.

Or...... they flashed their 'elongated middle digit' just once to often, and that is why they are extinct now!
