DETROIT-- A train derailment in Monroe forced evacuations and a road closure Tuesday afternoon, Local 4 has learned.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. near Dixie Highway and Harbor Avenue. The Canadian National train was heading through the area when it lost approximately seven cars. Several of the cars were carrying sulfuric acid, according to a representative from Canadian National.

Authorities said that none of the acid spilled, and the cause of the accident was not immediately available.

About 40 homes near the site were evacuated as a precaution, authorities said. The American Red Cross arranged temporary shelter for those families at a nearby hotel.

No injuries were reported.

Dixie Highway was closed near Elm Street as a result of the derailment.

Additional details were not immediately available.

and Planned Parenthood was there to offer free abortion services.

That's sarcasm (maybe).

I recall hearing about a chemical train accident in Wisconsin a few years back.
They had to evacuate the whole town for several days.
Some of those can get pretty messy.
