A St. Patrick's Cathedral priest who is under fire for a sermon bashing homosexuality as the prime cause of priest child-molestation said yesterday he did not clear Sunday's homily with his boss, Edward Cardinal Egan, even as the archdiocese distanced itself from his remarks.

in my opinion, the catholic church [sic] as a whole will not condemn homosexuality and it will continue the way it has always been

Well, the Catholic Church has always condemned homosexuality. See the excerpt below from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

And it has and will always "continue the way it has always been" in condemning homosexuality.

2357. "Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, [Cf. Gen 191-29 ; Rom 124-27 ; 1 Cor 6:10 ; 1 Tim 1:10 .] tradition has always declared that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.'[CDF, Persona humana 8.] They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."

The problem with standing behind the Monsingor is that the Church will then be further demonized by the liberal media. As conservatives we have suffered the wrath of the p.c. left-wing liberal media and the same problems we face in the political arena are the same problems the Church is facing--standing up for truth and not being politically correct ends up backfiring because the media spins and the people of this nation choose to believe the newspapers and Dan Rather instead of seeking the truth. Gays should be ousted from the clergy. Period. How can we forget the demonization of the Boy Scouts for their stance on homosexuality--the Church needs the same stance but is probably too afraid of the media. We need to overtake the liberal media in this country and get rid of their evil influence. They are the ruination of this country.

Fifty five priests charged and/or convicted from a total of 46,000?

That makes it 99.88%, not 99.9988%. Looks to me like you just added an extra "99". In other words, a typo.

Like I said, nothing wrong with your thought. :)

I believe Christ's admonition against prosecuting others before you have cleared your house of the same crime is very appropriate.

But as you say, the problem is that his own house is full of active homosexuals! How is he supposed to fix this problem if he doesn't speak out against it? Within his very church there are people who call good evil and evil good, and we both know what the prophets before Christ called down upon them: Woe upon Woe.

Get ready. There's going to be a deluge of straightophobic homosexuals invading the website to discuss how the priests did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinski......er......I mean......all those young impressionable boys.

It's HOMOSEXUALS, NOT PEDOPHILES! Deal with it.

>That's funny, I thought sex with kids was pedophilia. And these priests didn't just do boys.

Your posts helped me understand why all homophiles, including our massmedia, avoid the "H" word like a plague.
Quila, you have to read post #59 where TEXASPROUD explained with scientific precision what is NOT a heterosexual experience.

Monsignor Clark, I admire you for the sermon.

Monsignor Clark is no doubt right since our only competition for least moral country in the hemisphere is Canada.

What about Brazil, or Colombia, or Nicaragua? And what's the criteria?

How many years of studies would you like to see before Monsignor Clark, a first rate preacher, should be allowed to apply his rhetorical blowtorch to the relevant portion of the anatomies of the lavender mafia?

You're not so bad with words yourself. LOL. That's a great line. But if by "applying his rhetorical blowtorch" you mean demeaning the character of Americans versus the rest of the hemisphere with no data to back it up, all I am saying is I take offense to it.

Do I recall that you are not Catholic? Why is it any of your business what is said in sermons at Catholic Churches?

I am an American. He is publicly insulting the character of the American people. That is my concern. Not that the Monsignor should be tending to his own backyard or anything. Or is he suggesting it is everyone else's fault that there are gay priests molesting adolescents in his beloved Church? It must be the most corrupt church in the hemisphere!

Have you noticed the other 50% of the nation lately? What a horror! Every type of debotchery under the sun. If it's sick, they engage in it.

He also reportedly said the United States has a "sex-saturated society" and is "probably the most immoral country" in the Western Hemisphere.

Damn straight. We need more leaders like this man. This guy has the guts to say what most decent men and women already know is true. It would be nice if Pres. Bush would follow this guy's lead. I just don't think he has the guts. We need a cultural counter-revolution TODAY.

Seriously, Christianity might be more palatable to us unbelievers if you completely ditched the concept of the church and clergy power structure and got back to basics, as in your saviour Christ. Just a tip.

You mean this Christ:

"Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?" Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe." (John 6:60-64)

This man, who just got finished telling a crowd that they have to gnaw his flesh and drink his blood to be saved, seems not much concerned about "palatibility" to me.

Speaking the truth about the homosexual perversion is all one needs do to earn the title of "Gay-basher."

Yeah, it's a brave new world, alright.

Every priest, pastor, and minister in the nation should be shouting this from the rooftops!

"The Church, ministers and all, needs to stand and be counted and heard and heard and heard. Give no heed to the complaints of offense by the wicked. Be like Stephen, who was Christ like, and spoke the truth until the wicked stoned him to death. He refused to be censured by the objections and protests of the wicked. Speak against baby shredding, speak the Bible truth against morally reprobate homosexuals and speak against child/adult sex, until they give it up or stone you to death."-- Freeper Lester Moore

Interesting. So if an Irishman gives up drinking, can he not warn others of the dangers of alcoholism until all Irishmen give up drinking? Hypocrisy is a vile thing, but one can't be a hypocrite unless he himself practices the evil against which he preaches. I don't know the quote you speak of, but I doubt Christ meant it the way you're using it.

Something is out of whack when saying that homosexuals are more likely than heterosexuals to sexually molest teenage boys is considered to be a controversial statement.

Instead they hide behind the veil like cowards.

Yep. Until the church teaches homosexuality is an abomination in public, they will remain an apostate church. Even they call for confession of others. It's their turn to confess to the world. Will they? Or will they remain cowards before the Lord.
He will say to them: "Get away from me. I never knew you."
Catholics around the globe should be demanding public confession.

Although the church officially condemns homosexuality, in practice the condemnation is soft-pedalled if not eliminated. In Seattle a few years ago, a well-known Jesuit priest died of AIDS, and the subject of how he might have acquired AIDS was taboo both in the secular and in the Catholic press. He received nothing but accolades, even though there was prima facie evidence that he was not faithful to his vows and may have in fact been sexually involved with young men or boys. I have heard rumors, but have seen no proof, that the local Catholic Church here in Seattle is basically controlled by a gay cabal.

From the Pope's Address to the U.S. Cardinals,
"People need to know that there is no place in the priesthood and religious life for those who would harm the young. They must know that Bishops and priests are totally committed to the fullness of Catholic truth on matters of sexual morality, a truth as essential to the renewal of the priesthood and the episcopate as it is to the renewal of marriage and family life."
