Then came 1948 and the great partition. The United Nations proposed the creation of two states in the region – one Jewish, one Arab. The Jews accepted it gratefully. The Arabs rejected it with a vengeance and declared war.

So why did the incumbents declare "war", huckleberry?

Who gave the land to the United Nations to "partition"?

Thanks for posting this, John. It makes sense to me. The Palestinians started fighting the day after the British left Israel.
