[history]
A supercolony of ants has been discovered stretching thousands of miles from the Italian Riviera along the coastline to northwest Spain.
It's the largest cooperative unit ever recorded, according to Swiss, French and Danish scientists, whose findings appear in today's issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

Was driving me crazy cuz I couldnt' remember, so went and found it. Vinager, but not in a lid. Said to put it near point of entry, and they won't cross it. Like I said, I don't have this prob, so have never tried it, and not sure if it really works. Heck, instant grits are cheap too, try that, see if it works with them.

I know what you mean about the sand build up, it's not even dirt anymore. We have tired just about everthing there is, and to be honest with you, if you keep at them all day long, every day, going with the cheap stuff works as well as the more expensive stuff as Ortho. Right now I have a large can of some generic spray for ants/roahes, and I poke a stick in the mound to get them going, and just spray like crazy. They move within a few hrs, what's left of them, and I repeat. Right now they are under my son's portable basketball hoop..the mound has to be at least 6 inches high, all around the base. I haven't gotten to it yet this wknd, hoping they think I have forgotten! lol

The sugar ants won't cross Raid either but I would like to kill them all not just deter them. I am about ready to tear out the wall to get them.

I heard that you can take a shovel of them from a mound and throw it on another and they'll attack each other as rivals, even going after the queen.

They are in your wall?? As in house wall?? Think that's a bigger job for even Orhto! Good luck!

Sugar ants get in your house, when it's hot and hasn't rained for a while, looking for water.I had a problem with them until I used this concentrated stuff I found in Home Depot.Once we got some good rain, they were gone.

Maybe the US should extend full diplomatic recognition to the colony since they have, for the last 82 years, had a more stable heirarchy and more effeciently run civilisation than the other inhabitants of the Italian Peninsula.
Give them a seat in the UN. They surely have bigger brains than 99% of the current crop of delegates.

Ants are a pain in the butt, I grant you that, but I was thinking you had the fire ants in your house. That would make me move!! Try the vinager. I haven't used it since I don't have a prob with this kind. Cheaper than raid, smells better in my opinion, and if nothing else, something to check off the list for the future? Knock on wood, the only thing I have had in my house is the roaches...and KNOCKING HARDER!!!! haven't seen any of those in my house in almost a year, which is a record for this area!
