SACRAMENTO, Calif -- Two men are being sought for allegedly pulling off to the side of a dead end road and unleashing a vicious pit bull on an unsuspecting cat. And the entire assault was caught on videotape.
Security video captured the attack last January at an industrial area in north Sacramento off Striker and Truxel roads.
The videotape shows the men stopping their car and popping the trunk open. That's when a cat jumps out. The dog takes off in hot pursuit. The cat is eventually cornered.
"What they're doing here is dragging out the cat. They have something around its neck," SPCA officer Katy Peralta said.
And after the cat is horribly mauled by the pit bull. One man dumps it in the street in front of the car's left front tire. The other man rolls the car over the animal, first forward and then backward.
"The guy standing in front of the car will lift the cat up and toss it into the field. That's what he just did. And the guy in the checkered sweatshirt just let the dog go to continue mauling the cat," Peralta said.
The cat was found in that field by investigators the next day.
"There could be one of two things they're doing here. They could want to intentionally hurt some one close to them by taking someone's cat, or they training that animal to be a fighter," Peralta said.
In this case, a bigger concern for the SPCA is when a dog is trained to chase anything that runs away, its next victim may be a child. The SPCA is now asking the public to help find these two men. They are driving a 1990s model Toyota Celica with a license plate in the front passenger window. The dog is a brown or tan pit bull. And investigators believe the cat, with some unique markings, may have been some one's pet.
"It is a black and brown tabby cat with four white paws, very distinctive. It's a neutered male, and it's very young," Peralta said.
The SPCA is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two men.
When caught, the men will face animal cruelty charges. Charges that could put them behind bars for up to five years with a $20,000 fine.
If you have any information on the case, you are asked to call the SPCA at (916) 383-7387, extension 9127
The worst part is getting those cat hairs off my tongue.
This is truly the most important point of this story.
However, I am in no way negating the disgusting cruelty perpetrated by those scum-bags. Anyone who seeks to harm an animal in that manner probably wouldn't hesitate to do the same to a human being.
That would be just fine with me.
(me - no - paws) get it?
I'll probably be proven wrong in this case, but I started noticing about a decade or so ago that when the news reports omit the racial description of a suspect the suspect is black.
She thinks that she is a Kid...Human.
And is she smart, she has us trained!
And Yes, I must admit, You are correct about the Mop.
My husband always calls her..."My Little Dust Mop."
She is Groomed every Seven Weeks, so her hair does not get that long...
but her tail does look like a Dust Mop.
And she is an Eight Year Old Cutie...her name is: SanDee
I'd post a picture for you here, but I don't know how to do that on Free Republic.
And you continue to ramble like someone who is half out of their mind. Please explain how my stating what appears to be your position - remember, YOU said I don't understand how anyone cannot say that these SOB's do not deserve to have their arms and legs chopped off. YOU are the one in favor of maiming human beings and against hunting, correct?
And castrate the rapists.
So, sungirl, are you still not fond of hunters?
