Men Sought In Videotaped Animal Attack

SACRAMENTO, Calif -- Two men are being sought for allegedly pulling off to the side of a dead end road and unleashing a vicious pit bull on an unsuspecting cat. And the entire assault was caught on videotape.

Security video captured the attack last January at an industrial area in north Sacramento off Striker and Truxel roads.

The videotape shows the men stopping their car and popping the trunk open. That's when a cat jumps out. The dog takes off in hot pursuit. The cat is eventually cornered.

"What they're doing here is dragging out the cat. They have something around its neck," SPCA officer Katy Peralta said.

And after the cat is horribly mauled by the pit bull. One man dumps it in the street in front of the car's left front tire. The other man rolls the car over the animal, first forward and then backward.

"The guy standing in front of the car will lift the cat up and toss it into the field. That's what he just did. And the guy in the checkered sweatshirt just let the dog go to continue mauling the cat," Peralta said.

The cat was found in that field by investigators the next day.

"There could be one of two things they're doing here. They could want to intentionally hurt some one close to them by taking someone's cat, or they training that animal to be a fighter," Peralta said.

In this case, a bigger concern for the SPCA is when a dog is trained to chase anything that runs away, its next victim may be a child. The SPCA is now asking the public to help find these two men. They are driving a 1990s model Toyota Celica with a license plate in the front passenger window. The dog is a brown or tan pit bull. And investigators believe the cat, with some unique markings, may have been some one's pet.

"It is a black and brown tabby cat with four white paws, very distinctive. It's a neutered male, and it's very young," Peralta said.

The SPCA is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two men.

When caught, the men will face animal cruelty charges. Charges that could put them behind bars for up to five years with a $20,000 fine.

If you have any information on the case, you are asked to call the SPCA at (916) 383-7387, extension 9127

Surfin has redeemed himself. He's a good guy. Wouldn't be on FR if he weren't

I just said I like cats. These guys were idiots, hunting cats with anything other than a good trap or a 22 rifle is overkill. I wouldn't use my doberman to catch something I could ping with a 22. He'd slober all over the meat and put teeth holes in it before I could even cook it.

Probably wasting bandwidth here, but...

Animals represent one of a number of significant connesctions that we have with the greater power (call this God or whatever you prefer). In the end, we will be judged by how we have treated animals in our lifetime. Poor performance could be regretable by a few small-minded folks. MTR.

Dubya is right, this type of "training" is also very cruel to dogs. Dog lovers are just as upset about these stories. I would like to put these people out to be bait for their psycho-tortured fighting dogs. See how they like being on the receiving end.

I have one of those, too! He's my 17 lb house lion. He is sitting on my feet waiting for me to finish with FR for the evening. He usually wakes me up by 'washing' my hair in the morning. Goofy cat buddies...

OMG! Your's does that too? My better half hates it, she thinks it's disgusting. But I don't mind. Kind of a bonding ritual between buddies, I guess. Does that make me kinky? Don't know if I want to hear the answer. Anyway, we have cats, dogs, fish. Cats are OK, in their own way. But I prefer dogs. Much more easy to get along with. The fish are what they are. Kinda keep to themselves.

As I said, if you think what these two punks did is ok, be a man and say so. Don't try and skirt around it. They are disgusting.

God gave us dominion over animals. That also holds responsibility. You think God intended us to torture cats by unleashing pit bulls on them?

I never once said I wasn't disgusted by abortion. Never once. This thread is about animal torture, is it not? There are plenty of abortion threads, yes? Are you going to be like our favorite poster, Tabitha Soren, and look for animal threads everyday to come onto and scream about abortion?

That is what I'd like to do, yes. Or unleash a pack of those presa carnios on them. I doubt they'll even get a fine if caught. And then they'll just go and do it again.

No, it isn't kinky. It isn't even remotely sexual. The cat in question sees me as a huge clumsy cat with a seriously bad coat that needs to be groomed. Seeing as I 'groom' (pet) him all the time, and provide him with food, shelter and medical care, its the least he can do.
He's Mr. Loyalty-- follows me everywhere, and stands guard at the bathroom door when I shower. He wouldn't have anything to do with my friends who came over to feed him when I was in the hospital for heart surgery-- but he went crazy on my return. I sleep on my side, and he likes to perch on top of my side with his face next to mine. About 3 weeks after I came home from surgery, he climbed up there very slowly and cautiously-- he watched my face to see if I was in pain. I found that the weight felt really good-- pushing my ribcage back together-- so he stayed for a while, then gingerly climbed off. Quite considerate!
