Rush's Constant Shilling for Isreal Has Led Me to Rome (Smack Off v. Bore Off)
April 19, 2002 | im2phat4u

For years, I kept the Rush Limbaugh Show on for three hours a day. Partly as background noise while I worked, but also for entertainment and information.

I always found Rush to be a bit more of a Republican than a Conservative, while I'm more of a bit more of a Conservative than a Republican. But most of the time we agreed, and even when we didn't - - I found him to be entertaining.

In recent weeks, Rush's show has become almost nonstop pro-Isreali propaganda. That would be fine, if it were not so boring.

In our area, there is no other political talk on the radio during this time slot.

Two weeks ago, I joined some of my other friends (also Rush defectors) and tuned into to sports talker Jim Rome.

I listened to the Smack Off today and found it somewhat entertaining.

Perhaps my addiction to politics has been broken.

Any clones out there?

Rush isn't shilling for Israel. He's taking a position that he considers very important in the war on terrorism (calling for consistency). Recent polls show that Repbulicans support Israel something like 62-7% whereas Democrats are like 40-28%.

Rush run a current events show. Right now the ME are the major talk. I'm sure that once something else comes up, he'll talk about that. Anyways, it wasn't so bad today.

I like rome's show but he is a big time liberal. He is also anti gun. I guess the best way to describe him is PC.

Well President Bush is a pretty good Republican, too.

clones my arse... Rome, as far as radio, is pedestrian, repetitive, and boring. "Takes" are nothing more than shills competing for the best soundbite, and they are superior to Rome's comments. In his case, the callers are the show, as opposed to Rush, where callers are props for his (99% correct) takes on life..

Jim is more suited to "The Last Word", a somewhat decent vehicle for his limited talents..

Agreed. Perhaps it was just time for a change. Even PC types can entertain; and even conservatives can bore.

I take a break from Rush every now and then. I can even get tired of hearing stuff that I agree with.

I've gone through this cycle a few times:
I get tired of politics
I try other non-political entertainment
Non-political entertainment soon becomes shallow sounding
I try non-Rush political commentators
The others wear thin faster than Rush ever did
I tune in to see what Rush is saying, just for the heck of it
Rush makes a brilliant observation
I'm hooked again

I don't think he talked about Isreal much at all.... if AT all.... today! If you don't like him...don't listen...but don't try to advertise for your buddy at his expense.

I've always considered Rush more of an entertainer than an astute political commentator. I don't listen to him very much. Savage is more to my liking.

Perhaps Blake's arrest for his wife's murder would be more interesting for you?

Yeah dude, I did the same thing when it came to another issue I got tired of his talking about.

Wouldn't you know it, I was addicted again after about a month of no Rush.

Face it, he's just a great radio talent and you'll be back. Enjoy the sabbatical!!

"Shilling"?
You ever listen to Chris Matthews? His pro-Arab views are like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard. Gimme Rush any day!

Good one. I heard another talk show host also say he was not going to discuss the Blake arrest and was so glad to hear that.

Israel is important and I agree with Rush although I would like to have heard a little discussion about Chavez and Venezuela.

what are polls showing when people are asked if they support intentional murder of women and children as a means of maintaining political power?

I've always disliked him....not what he has to say mind you but, the way he says it.

If he's pro-Isreali that's a hell of a lot more intelligent than being pro-Arafat.

You should listen to Praeger, anyway. He's a lot more interesting than Rush.

The order I'd listen to the major talk shows is Hewitt, Praeger, Medved, Regan, North and last on the list: Rush.

I think Rush has been informative, even-handed and fair in his commentary on the middle east.
And as far as I can see, history and a fair assessment of the facts easily come down on Israel's side.
I'm very glad we have such a big voice in the media who's wise to all the anti-Israel propaganda being spewed by so much of the media here and around the world.
