How to Tell a Democrat from a Republican

(Or "Liberal from a Conservative" or "Leftist from a Right Winger" - without loss of generality)

Conservative, n. - A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal, who wishes to replace them with others.

-- Ambrose Bierce

Many of you have expressed great confusion, in these troubled times, in trying to tell a Republican from a Democrat. Sure, we know what they say they are; most of them have well displayed nameplates. But could you tell one from the other in a blind test? That is, without prior knowledge and access to his/her tshirt, automobile, or dog, could you determine which was which simply by his/her actions? Probably not. The purpose of this essay is to assist you in making such an identification.

In the following paragraphs, I will list the major issues of our times and clearly identify the differences between the Republican and Democrat approaches to these issues.

Republicans believe that every person inherently knows right from wrong, whether they were raised by a harlot on the mean streets of East St. Louis...

East St Louis was a mean city some years ago, but now it's mostly just a poor city.

both are statists: they do not disagree that the state has the authority to abrogate personal rights. both are insatiable for power, micro management and taxes. repubs are more reprehensible, because they operate under the pretense of freedom. dems make no such pretense, they admit it.

>How to Tell a Democrat from a Republican...

Oh so very funny.

Of course, we all know how to recognize a libertarian:

This sounds like it was written by someone who, at least superficially, understands that democrats (and their positions) are idiotic and/or immoral, but doesn't really want to come to grips with the true republican (or conservative, or whatever) views on the issues. Odd.

This is easy:

There's a bus headed for Hell. Periodically, the passengers get to vote on the driver, entirely missing the point about the destination.

When Democrats are in the driver's seat, they have the pedal to the metal.

When Republicans are in the driver's seat, they also have the pedal to the metal, but they tap the brakes every now and then.

If you must have pleasurable sex, which by definition would be outside of the marriage.....

It's really too bad you married the wrong person if this "outside of the marriage" thing is true for you! Be jealous of me, VERY, VERY jealous, and YOU FORGOT THE BARF ALERT!

oh - ha ha

Truth is: liberals base their facts on feelings and conservatives base their feelings on facts.

Generally the democRAT would be the one that wears a styrofoam helmet while driving their oil burning Volvo through the corner gas station parking lot to avoid stopping for the traffic light with a Gore/Lieberman 2000 and Earth First bumper stickers on the bike rack fitted to the rear bumper.

They are also inclined to be the one with the shopping cart loaded up with about 5,000 items that has taken station at the 10 item limit express lane and have their food stamp card at the ready. More likely than not, this individual will demand the plastic rather than paper bags. They are also prone to having their kids (the ones that were not aborted) running around the store aisles "rearrainging" displays with reckless abandon.

Please don't be nasty. I did not write this, and I do not agree with everything written. This is true for most of my posts. I generally post quite a bit, and I sometimes get some awful statements by others thinking that I agree with what I post.

Not that you have done this, but words like "idiot" or "stupid" or "typing in Caps while making an agressive statement" is not really a nice way to comment on the posts.

What benefit does it serve? Does it get your point across? What point could that be?

I suppose it is like walking into a tea-party with a bunch of nice little old ladies. They are all sitting down in a nice white room with fine china and flowers. Suddenly you walk in with a sledgehammer. And pound it on the table. Glass shatters! There is a loud crash! Things fly everywhere! The women are startled...

Not nice. Not cool. Not justified.

well if you would please enlighten me as to the "true" republican views, i'd certainly be appreciative
oh, and the names of any currently living politicians who are "true" republicans.
oh, and one more thing, who was it that appointed you the keeper of the "true" republicanism?

my apologies to columbo

Re: your post #16:Please don't be nasty.

Hold it! I didn't call you names, I did not use profanity, and I didn't attack you personally! I took one statement of many in your post which slammed conservatives, and I commented, and then, IN RED CAPS, stated that you had forgotten the barf alert! You DID leave off the barf alert.

Perhaps next time I will rephrase "It's really too bad you married the wrong person if this "outside of the marriage" thing is true for you!" to say "If one finds this 'outside of the marriage' thing to be true, then one married the wrong person"! Would this take the sting out of what I wrote, which was not meant to upset as much as to poke fun at the attempt to slam conservatives while setting the stage for the insertion of a BARF ALERT?

Didn't mean to piss you off, and I'm not upset with you going off on me, because heaven knows I've sure misinterpretted MY share of posts in my time!!
