Father Bierschenk said he didn't think some people needed screening since they were longtime friends.

The Fr. Efren Ortega defense: we don't need to screen the sisters because they are so holy.

Steve thought these guidelines were for other parishes, and other priests, not for him. Now, all he's concerned about is protecting his "rights".

Bishop Grahmann's words are important:

"You know very well that if there had been any sexual abuse, people would be saying we hadn't done enough to prevent it."

And the entire Confirmation class took the name Stephen as their Confirmation name. I think that speaks volumes about this man.

A vow of obedience is a vow of obedience. No one has ordered this priest to do anything immoral. He's been tranferred. If he won't obey as to complying with the diocesan screening policy in the diocese of Dallas which has bled an ocean of money because of past misbehavior of the likes of Fr. Rudy Kos and others inclined in his direction, that alone would be justification for discipline. If this priest has a problem with so mild a sanction as transfer and will not obey, suspend him until he will and go to court if necessary to evict him from the rectory.

Bump. This seems like a good policy. As to the priest's whining, he signed stuff saying he was doing it. Good bye.

The People in that Parish should be cheering their Bishop for having a policy to protect the children.

In the Boston area we are trying to get rid of about 5 Bishops for protecting Criminal Homosexual Priests for a period of about 40 years, thousands of childrfen have been abused in the most Horrible way.

So far it has cost the Boston Diocese over 50 million and they appear to be going to spend and other 50 million or more..

Any cleric who does not take this seriously should be summarily fired and defrocked.

Thank you for bringing some objective reality into to otherwise fact-free ongoing discussion. I've been amazed by the level of anger the posters on these threads have to the reassignment of a negligent parish priest. They are completely willing to not only undermine the legitimate authority of a bishop, but they even seem ready to jeopardize their own children's safety. Their loyalties are so terribly confused that it's clear that even aside from the current dispute, this parish priest was there way too long.
