"It was shocking," said Luccheta Antonio, 52, a barber down the block. "The windows shook and the mirrors." "It was a violent explosion," said Stefano Bottazzi, 35, who works in a skyscraper 500 yards from building. "The clock fell to the floor." On the streets, rescue workers in orange uniforms helped the injured — including a man with a bloody shirt holding his head. Ambulances streamed into the area and pedestrians peered upward.

Smoke could have been because the pilot was misusing the plane, his aim to crash into the building, not airplane maintenance. He called an SOS because he thought he might have to abort, had second thoughts and knew he could get to the target.

Transcripts of those phone conversations indicate that the suspects were in contact with other suspected terrorists operating near Milan last October. However, Italian authorities said only Fouhad Sabour's identity had been verified and the others were possibly aliases.

Two points. The man who flew the plane into the building might not have been the person whom the paperwork said would fly the aircraft that day. Or there might have another person aboard.

It is too early for speculation concerning the pilot. The circumstances of impact are very suspicious.

Fox reports that the pilot had filed a flight plan with the near-downtown Milan airplort as his destination. Reporters point out that there is a very large boulevard nearby that the pilot could have used as a runway instead of circling the building then crashing into it. Fox now determined it was an accident.

The smoke could simply be one of the engines on fire. It was a twin engine plane

I agree with you completely. Smoke in the cockpit is the only thing I can think of. Any pilots on this thread that think you would have hit this building dead center, full throttle, straight and level on a clear day. Sound off.

Good call. With enough smoke in the cockpit you might not see the building, but you probably would not be breathing either unless you were on oxygen (was this plane even equiped with oxygen?). With smoke like that, I might put the plane on autopilot to keep it straight and level. None of which would explain the perfectly targeted impact, other than amazingly bad luck. "Accident" still sounds like pure BS to me.

So, ANY PILOTS WITH IDEAS ON HOW TO HIT A BUILDING, SQUARE ON, STRAIGHT AND LEVEL, ON A CLEAR DAY, BY ACCIDENT?
