According to Der Spiegel, "Deutsche Waren werden verbrannt und vergiftet" ["German Goods will be burned and poisoned"], an organization calling itself the "German Division of Al Qaeda" sent a threatening letter to the German embassy in Tunisia at the beginning of the year.

Germany has for the first time raised the possibility that a truck bombing at a Tunisian synagogue that killed 16 people was an al-Qaida terrorist attack.
