As a resident of Broward County and a parent of children who currently attend Public School, I must protest your intention to vote in favor of GLSEN promoting it's material in Broward County Public Schools.
It is unconscionable to promote such controversial and offensive material within a public forum, particularly when it is a public school attended by innocent children. To add insult to injury, the propagation of such filth would be subsidized by our tax dollars.
It is difficult enough to raise a child in today's society. Now your proposing to bring in a group that will promote an agenda that is completely contrary to those that parents would raise their children by.
I would submit that the purpose of a school is to educate children, but that the range of material should be limited to basic topics. Math, Language, Science, Athletics and Music should be the focus of the mission of public schools. The government is the last entity that should be in a position to dictate morality. That is the responsibility of the parents and should be learned at home.
I would consider the propagation of material and ideologies contrary to those which I have raised my children with a public school both invasive and harmful. Even further than that, I consider it persecution.
We, myself, my neighbors and everyone we know in Broward County are carefully observing this issue. We will not permit the school board to dictate to our children behavior that is not only abnormal, but abhorrent to us. You will find that the bond between parent and child is one that is best left alone.
I just wrote this for a buddy who was raging over this issue. He's forwarding it to his friends and family as a generic fax form.
Bumping the fax...
