April 17, 2002 -- The warning from a senior U.S. diplomat was blunt and unambiguous: "It will be impossible to sustain these talks unless terrorism really does stop," he said.

That could have been Secretary of State Colin Powell speaking just yesterday to Yasser Arafat.

Colin Powell should have gone home last Friday and told the Israelis whether they killed or expelled Arafat was their affair and the U.S would have been willing to work with Israel to promote a responsible Palestinian leadership. In short, Powell blew a real chance to promote a lasting peace. He was ill served both by his own arrogance and the bad advice he received from Arabists in the U.S State Department. The truth is there will be no peace in the Middle East until the U.S government finally wakes up to the fact Arafat is part of the problem not part of the solution.

Absolutely true! Arafat knows only how to destroy; he could never run a functional Palestinian state with his gangs of thugs and he knows that quite well. Considering he has a degree in civil engineering (like UBL, interestingly enough), I find that supremely ironic.

However, Israel is being forced to "deal" with him, which is like forcing the U.S. to "negotiate" with UBL and just as fruitful. Until Arafat dies -- and God forbid Israel be responsible -- this won't be resolved. Sort of like Castro with bomb donkeys.

In the meantime, Israel is gritting its teeth and doing what Arafat would never do: clean up the terrorist warrens Arafat was instrumental in creating and arrest terrorists for real trials versus weekend "detentions".

The Arabs will continue to send bomb donkeys into Israel to do their gruesome deeds, but that wouldn't have abated anyway. It's way too profitable both financially and politically for the Arabs, who have discovered that nothig wins the hearts and minds of the UN and EU like committing shocking atrocities (an option the Jews cannot and will not choose). At least by launching preemptive raids, the Israelis may be able to reduce the rate of the bombings.

After that, it's basically a waiting game until Arafat croaks, with people dying every day he remains alive.

In the old days, the US once stood strong for morals against pirates and terrorists.

The Barbary Wars

America and the Barbary Pirates

Today:

Terrorist Arafat's trophy photos with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.
This murderer of Americans has been encouraged by the US State Dept.

"Yassir, This is Colin Powell, on my Terrorist Appeasement Tour,
and I'm here to save you.
My State Dept. has forms D-156 made up for each of your terrorist friends.
Come on in.
"

And the Result of Mr. Powell's latest Appeasement to Terror:
