I've agreed with Alan Keyes for a number of years on the need to get rid of the income tax. Its easier said than done however, because there are powerful vested interests that defend the income tax and the danger to liberty that it represents. They constitute the political class, the tax bureaucrats, the accountants, and whoever benefits from whatever handouts and exemptions they get from Washington. While it would be wonderful if the income tax were gone, the truth is it won't happen since it would be asking the current beneficiaries to commit political suicide. And what good liberal wants to get rid of the weapon known as class warfare? Still we can dream of a world without it. :)

Wow! But if the politicians are the gatekeepers to our pockets what can be done? Both the Dems and the Reps would stand against it.

But much of the talk of fundamental reform is really an effort to tinker with the existing tax system in order to help diffuse growing public discomfort and even outrage.

well, boy howdy, tinkering is how we ended up with the abortion we call the IRS tax code.

sadly, the left must be conquered to suppress those who would use the tax for the redistribution
of wealth, vote pandering, and furthering the socialist cause to the detriment of enterprise.

the choice is simple. the task is not.

Abolishing the tax code and replacing it with a national retail sales tax would have a wondrous effect on the economy. So much productivity and efficiency is wasted trying to comply with the absurd complications of the existing code. Unfortunately, the special interest groups that benefit from the status quo (particularly the CPAs and other tax preparers) will kill off any real reform in Congress, but I admire Keyes' dedication to this cause. His advocacy of a sales tax and his pro-life views were the main reasons I voted for him in the 2000 primary.

Cheers back to you!

In 1914, Tauzin pointed out, the income tax code had 14 pages. Today it has over 2,000 pages of law, 6,000 pages of regulations, and hundreds of thousands of pages of rulings and interpretations.

I am 100% for abolishing all taxes and having one national sales tax. Just think, all the dope dealers, general criminals, terrorists, and illegal immigrants, as well as all Americans would pay the same tax - the national sales tax on every product and service purchased.

I don't remember the source of this poem, but it certainly is true. THE TAXPAYER´S LAMENT Tax his cow, Tax his goat; Tax his pants, Tax his coat; Tax his crop, Tax his work; Tax his ties, Tax his shirt; Tax his chew, Tax his smoke; Teach him taxing is no joke. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule; Tell him, Taxing is the rule. Tax his oil, Tax his gas; Tax his notes, Tax his cash; Tax him good and let him know, That after taxes, he has no dough. If he hollers, Tax him more; Tax him till he´s good and sore. Tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax his sod in which he´s laid. Put these words upon his tomb, ´´Taxes drove him to his doom.´´ After he´s gone, we won´t relax. We´ll still collect inheritance tax. Something to ponder: In 1913, when Congress first levied an income tax, Tax Freedom Day -- that date which reflected how many days into the year a taxpayer had to work to pay taxes -- was January 30th. In 2002, Tax Freedom Day is April 27.

Wow! But if the politicians are the gatekeepers to our pockets what can be done? Both the Dems and the Reps would stand against it.

This reminds me of a Simpsons episode in which aliens disguised themselves as presidential candidates. When Homer revealed their extraterrestrial identities one exclaimed:

Kang: It's true! We are aliens! But what are you going to do about it? It's a two party system! You have to vote for one of us!
Man in Crowd: Well, I'm just going to vote for a third party!
Kang: Go ahead! Throw your vote away!! HA HA HA HA!!!

The people did vote for one of them, and they were enslaved.

Did you vote for Keyes in the primaries when it would have meant something?
