A dubious assertion at best. Gephardt and Algore both proposed tax cuts when it became apparent that they could no longer be avoided.
As much as I am always for a good tax cut, I think we are reaching a point where the spending by both federal and state governments really deserves more attention. The spending in both areas is simply out of control, as more and more politicians sense that the majority of American citizens are simply sheep-like individuals who sit around contemplating their navels all day, and therefore don't have the brain power to know that the government is slowly squeezing the life out of them.
Until the average American works up as much righteous anger over government spending as they do over the 5-cent increase at the ATM machine, there won't be any change to the irresponsible spending taking place at all levels of government.
