that the attack, while a serious affront, was at least justified from the Israeli point of view.

I've got no problem with that. What I have a problem with is the pretense of an accident if it wasn't one.

WOW!!!! I just spent the ENTIRE AFTERNOON reviewing all the information on the USSLiberty website.

As a patriotic and conservative American, I am SICKENED WITH DISGUST at the total disregard and disrespect for the American servicemen, and the TOTAL COVER-UP and lack of an official investigation. I am NOT anti-Semitic, but it appears Israel [and Moshe Dayan in particular] instigated a cold, deliberate and calculated attack on this American ship.

The United States was playing both sides, Israel and Egypt. Israel didn't care for their combat plans being relayed to Egypt. They reacted in the proper fashion.

You sick freak, those were your neighbors, brothers, fathers, sons and most of all ....AMERICANS.
I have just about had it with all this ALL OR NOTHING FOR THE ISRAELIS, even when it means killing your own military brothers!!! Thank God you weren't in any foxhole I was in, I'd have been confused which way to point!
I am an American, no dashes, hyphens, appendixes, apprehensions, or Dual citizenship. BACK OFF!
You cannot just disagree, you find it necessary to destroy anyone, or anything, who has the audacity to think any different than your tunnel vision perspective re; anything Israeli.  You truly do your side a disservice, and drive the alternative agenda. This single-mindedness is lets say, so NAZI LIKE, stop it!

The attack was deliberate. No question about it. The question is, did they know or believe it was an American ship? The "accident" part has to do with it being American. As I said, the Americans claimed no ships were in the area, and the Israelis were being bombarded by the Egyptians by (they thought) the sea. It all added up to attacking that ship.

What is self centered and extremely short sighted is to not realize how war in the middle east will effect American interests worldwide.

I agree with you that America should not be bothered with Israel's problems, but sometimes Israel's problems become our problems through no fault of our own. When scum sucking Jihadists attack us and murder our diplomats and our civilians, we have every right to answer it. And when the Arab dictators cut off the oil and costs you more money at the pump and higher prices due to transportation costs, we better have an answer for it.

Pat Buchanan would have us do nothing until the whole world around us is consumed with war. I think it's better to be proactive. Like it or not, our country is at the mercy of the rest of the world. Our standard of living will plummet without the rest of the world to trade.

It's a strange world we live in when we have a foreign policy based on "Two wrongs do make [one side] right."

So how many times has the assassination of John F. Kennedy, from exactly the same era, been investigated?

Do you subscribe to Arlen Specter's "Magic Bullet" theory about JFK's death just because basically the same group of people has repeatedly said that's the way it happened?

Reread my comment. It can be investigated 100 times for all I care. May not change my opinion, but I'm not infallible.

But common sense would dictate that if something has been investigated ten times, it's stupid to write to your congressmen and ask for a first investigation. You've shot yourself in the foot.

So the way America now works, is that if anyone stonewalls long enough and obnoxiously enough, they're home free.

????????????

No, of course not. Works the way it always did. Write your congressman, your senator. Publish a pamphlit. Post on FR. Thats how America works. Say no one ever investigated if you prefer. I simply suggested telling the truth. Doesn't work for you, sorry.

Unrelated to the Liberty, but for those who are concerned about American Sailors http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3b6efaba297e.htm; another issue that needs your help.

I there's one lobby which owns both houses of Congress body and soul, it's the one fighting this issue.

So until events force us to re-think what we've been doing in the Middle East since the late 1940's, anywhere but Congress will be more effective.

"Sick Freak"? Thanks for the compiment. Carlos, I see that you really trust your government and they can do no wrong. I'm curious, how old are you? This might explain your trusting behavior. By the way, my unit was the 144th Signal Battalion at Division Headquarters. MOS... Cryptographer in the Communication Center. The reason that I'm displaying this is because of contact with the NSA. They were, and still are, the "IRS" of the communication world and feared. I could tell you some stories. You are shooting the messenger who is voicing an honest view on the subject. Reverse the rolls of the US and Israel. How would you react then?
