that the attack, while a serious affront, was at least justified from the Israeli point of view. I've got no problem with that. What I have a problem with is the pretense of an accident if it wasn't one.

The attack was deliberate. No question about it. The question is, did they know or believe it was an American ship? The "accident" part has to do with it being American. As I said, the Americans claimed no ships were in the area, and the Israelis were being bombarded by the Egyptians by (they thought) the sea. It all added up to attacking that ship.
