At 9500 BC this region was temperate in climate.
Which comic book did you read that in?

Probably just got deeply confused on dating and such....

At one time, Antartica not only had a temperate climate, it had a TROPICAL climate; Antartica was on the Equator and has since drifted to the South Pole after the breakup of Pangaea and the further breakup of Gondwanaland. However, this was tens of millions of years ago. Hence, there's coal in Antartica.

While the climate of Antartica in 9500 BC may, of course, have been slightly different than today, Antartica was in the same place it was today, and it's a safe assumption that Antartica was then, as it is now: Ass-cold.

The whole polar flip-flop stuff is pure crap, of course.

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier; after I began reading it I was greatly fearful that NO ONE would figure out the entire story was a complete fake, but fortunately FR redeemed itself. Still, pretty embarassing how many posts there were till somebody did figure it out.

My thought exactly. I mean, isn't this woman:

Dr. Serena Serghetti

straight from Central Casting. Quick, we need a good looking doctor. Well, Nicole Kidman was already a brain surgeon. Find me her lookalike!

I thought the Blair Witch Project movie was for real when I attended it. It scared the crap out of me. Then I came to FR to see what the deal was and it turned out that it was only a movie.

Well, there is this lake with liguid water two miles under the ice down in Antartica. Someone thought it would be a good idea to drill down to the lake and start to research it because maybe it has an environment similiar to that existing on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons.

This is where it gets weird.

Supposedly a small nuclear reactor was used for the drilling, Raytheon was the contractor, and there was some sort of accident with employees having to be medevacuated due to radiation exposure.

That, anyway, is all I've been able to glean from different sources because our government has tightened up on candid information like a bull's anus in fly season.

BOGUS! I checked various references on the articles identified and performed Yahoo checks of organizations and individuals. None show up. Totally bogus. But its great hype for the book. Enjoy!

I was thinking proper attire would be high on my list. Last time, if you remember, we only had one parka between the two of us...not terribly practical for the Antarctic. :)

LOL

Actual terminology used by people who work in Anarctica. No kidding! Complete dictionary of terms at:

amanda.physics.wisc.edu/steffen/antarctica/dictionary.en.html

alien mating call n. AASTO, an instrument which measures cloud altitudes by use of a variable frequency sonar. The sonar emits audible chirping sounds and is often suspected of attracting aliens. See also: "them"

"them" . 1. n. Used in reference to some unknown or ficticious person (associated with the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc.) who has been messing around the South Pole station without anyone being aware. 2. n. Anyone not living at the South Pole. 3. n. Aliens who live at the South Pole.

Couldn't you find a faster modem?

DSL baby! I should have been more specific. I meant dimension-wise. vannrox didn't post his as a response to my post so it didn't put a 934p X 403p graphic on "My Comments". I'm just razzin' ya, though, I'm not really put out!

Thanks for the clarification. Did you notice, then, that one of vannrox's Antarctica maps was 1134 pixels wide?? He's the one who stretched out the width of this thread, not I! ;)

Didn't you read the other threads? You're supposed to wrap them in tin foil.

Of course this is all disinformation to keep us from realizing that there are openings into the hollow earth at the poles.

I know, I read it in a book.

"..is all I've been able to glean from different sources because our government has tightened up on candid information like a bull's anus in fly season.."

Very interesting. I must admit that the whole premise of the movie sounds very intriguing. I wonder how much of it is closely based on actual events.

"..like a bull's anus in fly season.."

Now that's drawing a mental picture alright! :o)
