It's Casual Friday.......Have fun - do your own thing. But stop for a minute and thank a Veteran or write someone who's serving this country a short note and let them know you appreciate them. Hug a family member of an active military person. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the way you care and show your support....of our leaders, our military, and the FReeper Canteen. Don't forget the big dance tomorrow. :)

Good morning,Billie. I heard a piece on the radio just a while ago about some of our troups returning to Ft. Drum from Afganistan. The stories of their courage and valor are truly inspiring. There is hope for us yet. Happy Friday.

Thanks Billie for this opening! What a sweet picture!

I would like to thank all of you that are putting your lives on the line so that me and my family can live in freedom. You give sooooo much and receive so little. You all are heros in my book! :)

And thank you to all of the veterans that have fought and served this GREAT country! I admire and respect all of you! If it wasn't for you I would not be able to worship as I want, say what I want, live the way I want, have the job that I want, etc..... It is because of what you have done that I have freedom! God Bless You All!

Good Mornin' USO FReeper Canteen.

I like that "Born in the USA" graphic, but I won't be posing in a like manner - for which everyone will be grateful. :^)

Thanks to ALL of our Armed Forces serving at home and abroad. May God Bless and Protect each and every one.

Salute!

I'll sign up for the duration plus 6 if you'll save the last dance for me on Saturday nite.

I tried to get the same commitment from LadyX but she kept muttering something about Semper Fi and all that stuff that only Jarheads understand.

Billie, Your wonderful picture of the sleeping child made me think once again about exactly what our soldiers are fighting for. Thank you.

Keep this sickening picture in your mind forever and the attack on the World Trade Towers, the death of those men, women and children will stay personal forever! When you get a peacelover whining in your ear, this is the cure. Show it to them!
Six columns from the left, in the middle of the picture you see someone holding an infant out of the building trying to give it fresh air. These folks are all dead now! Everyone of them! Keep this atrocity personal forever!
Do not listen to the whiners and weepers about the civilian casulties that our pilots accidentally cause. Remember foremost the three thousand civilians who died in the attack on the World Trade Center Towers. This terrorist attack was an intentional mass murder of innocent civilians. So tell Reuters and CNN to go somewhere else with their 'sad stories'!

A Sobering Thought and Hope for the Future

Possible disappointing news for me. We have a new data cut for the conversion I'm working on.
That means setting up and running the entire conversion process. It could be a late night and over the weekend job.

I'll e-mail myself all the Dance stuff I have ready and post it from work if I have too.
It just means that I may have to do "post and go" for the Dance.
So far the schedule is up in the air, but worst case is that I'll only be able to drop in for short periods at a time.
I will be there come Hell or High Water. No way I'm gonna miss hugging on all the Canteen Ladies.

A friend of mine just got back from Afgahnistan. Serves with the 160th Special Forces (Nightstalkers - stationed in Ft. Campell, KY). Hopefully we'll be playing golf this weekend and I'll pass along your best wishes; plus I'll hopefully take a little of his cash on the linx (hehehehehe).

VETS COMMEMORATE OKINAWA CAMPAIGN
Submitted by: 1st Marine Corps District
Story Identification Number: 2002411131916
Story by 1st Marine Corps District Public Affairs

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.(April 6, 2002) -- World War II veterans were the honored guests during the 1st Marine Division's Annual Okinawa Luncheon at the 1st Marine Corps District headquarters here April 6.

Attending the event commemorating the fight for Okinawa were 18 U.S. veterans who took part in one of the fiercest battles of World War II.

"We commemorate the courage and dedication of not only those who died, but all who fought in the Okinawa campaign," said Pasquale A. Cassetta, a director of the 1st Marine Division, N.Y. Chapter. Cassetta was a 17-year-old Marine corporal when he took part in the Okinawa campaign.

Okinawa is located in the Ryukyu Islands archipelago of the western Pacific, just southwest of Japan. The island's proximity to mainland Japan and its airfields were crucial to Allied plans for an invasion on the heart of the Japanese empire. More than 16,000 American service members stormed the shores of Okinawa virtually unopposed by the defending Japanese forces. Thousands of other Sailors, Soldiers, and Marines waited in reserve aboard offshore sea vessels.

More people died during the Battle of Okinawa than all those killed during any other battle during the war. By the end of Japanese armed resistance in June 1945, casualties totaled more than 48,000 Americans, one quarter of who were killed in action. Japanese resistance was determined as seen by the loss of 103,000 soldiers out of a garrison of 120,000.

The valor displayed by American fighting men rivaled that at Iwo Jima where Admiral Chester Nimitz remarked, "Uncommon valor was a common virtue." Thirteen Medals of Honor were presented for actions on Okinawa, 11 of which were presented posthumously.

Colonel Tom L. Tyrrell, commanding officer of the 1st Marine Corps District and guest speaker at the luncheon, said the importance to recognize those who were part of the 82-day campaign was obvious.

"We don't recognize yours as the 'the greatest generation' without cause," he said. "The sacrifice of men like you, many new to the country you were sworn to defend, reaffirmed the standard that is our Corps."

The 1st Marine Division Association, N.Y. Chapter, hosts the Okinawa Luncheon every April at the 1st Marine Corps District headquarters.

Semper Fi Marines, soldiers, and sailors! Thank you for your selfless sacrifice for us...

Hello Billie, Snow Bunny, COB1, Lady, X, and all!

A friend of mine met a lady in our area whose husband is in Afghanistan right now! Her name is Karen. She hugged this lady and told her how much we love and support her and her husband. Karen - and my friend - were both in tears and she expressed how much all the good wishes of support mean to her. She said how much they really really help.

My friend did not tell her about the USO Canteen at Free Republic - but I am going to be sure she calls her to tell her.

Just wanted to pass that along. Saying a prayer for Karen and for her husband. Dear Lord, protect both of these courageous Americans and bring Karen's husband home safely as soon as his job is done! Amen!

Prayers continue every day for all our fighting men and women and for their leaders and for their safety and for their effectiveness in doing the job they are there to do - wherever they are stationed! And for the families and loved ones left behind. God bless and keep and encourage and strengthen and provide for each and every single one!
