Never again. I cannot begin to imagine the fear the Israeli's live with, especially as they see the world turn against them for just defending themselves as any nation would do.
You would think that after Sept 11th, the world would be on the side of the victims of terrorism, not the terrorists wouldn't you?
Pray for the peace of Israel, for that is all we can do.
It seems the Bible speaks of them calling for peace, and there is no peace.

I don't buy what Peggy is selling.

She is selling events leading to the end of the world. That is just way off. Is this situation worse that it was in 1967, or 1973? It is not Back then the Soviet Union was at the peak of its powers and it backed all the UNITED ARAB nations in an attempt to destory Israel. If we and the Soviets got into it it would have been WWIII. This is a regonal conflict with a very powerful Israel and a very weakend Muslim world. And what Henry Kissenger tells Peggy and she believes leads me to think Henry was having some real fun.

As my Daughter says, Get Real

What is going on is, we are trying to divide and conquer the militant muslims. They are the people who want to destroy us and Israel. What they are trying to do is use Israel to unite, misdirect and subvert our attempt to take them down. They hope to cause enough trouble, misdirection and fear so that we leave and let them take Israel

Realy terrible weapons of mass destruction are not something the Muslim world has. Nothing like the Soviet Union had. They will not use them for the same reason Sadam did not use the ones he had in 1990. He and they know that both Israel and the united states would blow them off the face of this earth.

So Arabs will do as they did 1948, 1967, 1973, and 1990. When faced with an overwhelming dedicated force, the Arabs are prone to surrender. These people surrendered to the Greeks. They Surrendered to the Romans. They surrendered to the Turks. They surrendered to the French and English and they have sued for peace 3 times after short conflicts with Israel. They had the lasest and best Soivet weapons. They outnumbered the Jews 10 to 1` and they sued for peace after a short period fo combat in which they suffered defeat.

This is not the end of the world or anything close to it. Peggy needs to have her rear end checked. I think she will find someone tattooed a huge M$M on it when she wasn't looking.

If the situation degrades further Israel will attack. We will back them and the rest of the Arab world will support their arab brothers as they have for 4,000 years. They will do nothing but make noise and ask the UN to hold their hands.

It is the way Arabs are made. This talk is just like the talk that said if we were so foolish as to take on the 4th largest army in the world,we would pay big time. An army with a terrible Repubican Guard fresh from military action with Iran would be more than our young untested troops could handle. Yes if we took them on our preparations for only 20,000 causualties would be a disgrace. It would be Vietnam times 10. That is what John Glen and Ross Perot both said before the Gulf war. They said in that mother of all battles we would be lucky to only lose 50,000 men.

We lost 32 people. After 100 hours of combat, they surrendered.

This is not a fight against the Vietnamese, the Koreans, or the Germans. This is the land of surrrender now and avoid the rush later. This Miss Marple, is the Middle east. Where the cowards and loud mouths play. Where always is heard the threatening word. And the hands reach skyward all day.

This is the home of the rapid surrender. It has been for 3,000 years. It will likely be for the next 2,000. Peggy is Irish and a tad emotional. Henry Kissinger was playing with her, and she believed the media hype he fed her.

When an Arab walks in a bar and says he can lick any man in the house, he is planning to do it with his tongue.

So true. What has to be done is dirty and violent.

When you have a boil, it must be lanced and cleaned out.

Noonan sums it up pretty well.

Bush knows that events will take their course and there's not much that the US can do about it.

Gods will... so to speak. We already know that Saddam is a player.

Let Sharon flush out the other skunks in the woodpile.

Bring the pot to a boil. Talk is cheap as my daddy used to say.

Israel extended its hand to Arafat but it was spit on. Now Israel is to blame for defending her people.

“Hang the luck!” Let the pot boil over... bring it!

The king ponders and agrees. Later a friend asks the servant why he made such a stupid, impossible vow. The servant said, "Well, in a year the king may die, or I may die. Or the horse may laugh."

Good advice (buy time, because time may bring an unexpected solution, such a Arafat dying of natural causes), but like most advice, conditional. Conditional meaning being able to decipher whether waiting will 1) possibly make things better, 2) leave you where you were before starting the waiting period or 3) make things much worse than if you didn't wait. One way to answer this dilemma is to calculate who will get "stronger" faster during the waiting period, you or your adversary. I don't know the answer, but I hope Bush/Cheney/Rice/Powell do have the answer.

Thanks for giving your perspective on this issue. The Armegeddon talk, along with ample doses of defeatist negativity, does get to me. It is refreshing to read your thoughts about the issue.

I always look forward to reading what you post, there is usually a fresh perspective that you bring to an issue that I haven't considered before. And thinking about issues in new ways is what makes FR fun.

.... force is sometimes all that will work even temporarily and that negotiating is weakness to some. I am troubled by our mixed signals. I liked Bush's clearer vision in the weeks following 9-11.

I agree with you Wardaddy, we must be prepared to face our mortal enemy, militant Islam, but we must also do as Peggy suggests, Pray, pray, pray.....

A lot to chew on in your post...very good stuff. But the detonation of a chemical or nuclear device by the Arabs puts your able and astute analysis in the wastebasket.

It's possible that somebody will go for broke, somebody with the same mentality which we saw demonstrated on 9/11. That is the unknown that could bring us to the precipice.

For all of their bluster the Arabs take their defeats in stride because they see all events as God's will. That is why they are so dangerous after striking a blow like September 11. They believed that was God's will too.

I love Peggy Noonan, but I would prefer to take action and let the Arabs do the praying.
