HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - HBO has picked up rights to the film "Journeys With George," a documentary following then-presidential candidate George W. Bush on the campaign trail.
"Journeys" features Alexandra Pelosi -- daughter of U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat -- tagging along with Bush for 18 months as he stumped for the White House. HBO plans to air "Journeys" later this year.
Already a hot commodity, "Journeys" is following up its March premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, with screenings at the Double Take, San Francisco, and Tribeca festivals.
Pelosi, a former NBC "Dateline" producer, apparently intended to finish the project regardless of Bush's participation. At certain times in the film, though, the Republican candiate does warm to the camera.
"What it reveals is how we elect our presidents, and George Bush is just one of the many great characters on the road trip," says Pelosi of "Journeys." "I certainly would not have been able to pull this off if I were covering Al Gore (news - web sites)."
Pelosi recently opened her own shingle, Purple Monkey Prod.
Ping everybody!
This is gonna be so great. We'll have to do a live thread.
I don't know what it is about our president, but every time I see him, I smile.

Just try to picture an "on the road with AlGore" movie, with the wooden one mugging and trying to act jovial, witty and clever for the camera. He would have made such a stellar fool of himself. Darn! I wish she had made that movie.
I did read about this on The Dose, and saw the 'little preview' that was aired about a month [?] ago ... it was pure W: adorable, intelligent, irresistable and direct.
Don't have HBO ... sigh!
BTW .. anyone know when this is scheduled to air??
Thanks
Mo, I have HBO too and I never watch it either. LOL. I forget I have it.
I got it to watch that Tom Hanks series about the war and to see what the big deal was about the Sopranos and Sex in the City. I think I saw 2 or 3 of the Hanks shows. I've watched SitC 2 or 3 times but I've seen the Sopranos most of all. Maybe 6 or 7 times total. It's pretty good.
