You know, gun owners there should issue a counter-ultimatum. They should say that if they are told to turn in their guns, they will exercise their 2nd Amendment rights in a very real and disturbing way.

Your point is spot on. The reason for the 2nd amendment is to restrain tyranny by the government. Apparently the good citizens of Illinois are willing to tolerate trainloads of tyranny from politcal pukes like Richard Daley.

"UNCONSTITUTIONAL" is not a detriment to the Gun Control Idiots and Democrats alike. This whole thing is really sick. Where do they think they are, or rather, where do the want to be? Obviously not in the U.S. with it's constitutionally set rights and freedoms.

This type of thing has to stop.

Unfortunately, tarring, feathering, and running politicians like Daley out of town on a rail would only result in life-long prison sentences for those involved. The Machine protects its own...

Neighbor called 911 twice during California fatal dog mauling. Dialing 9-11 to save your life is no guarantee help will arrive in time.

While I was traveling in Birmingham, AL, a local newspaper editorial after the guilty verdict echoed the financial liability to the dog owners and the inability of our state governments (police) to protect by dialing 911.

The writer Mr. Bruce Hardee a retired national insurance company writing on “pet owners heed California dog verdict” indicated that dog-bites was their No. 2 property and casualty claim.

“The local Birmingham sheriff’s department commented, walkers have the right of self-defense against man or beast, and should take what they will to exercise this right.” In Birmingham a state firearm statue guarantees citizen’s rights to self-defense in public and home if they choose.

As I reflected on my vulnerability in public, from both man and beast in IL, I began to realize words of writer Richard W Stevens, Mazel Freedom Press, Inc. (California attorney at law) who wrote the widely published book “Dial 911 and Die” were true.

Mr. Stevens studied all fifty state constitutions to determine if he could bring lawsuits against government failure to protect individual citizens in 911 cases.

He found government did claim to owe a duty to guarantee food, shelter, income, etc. However, the government owes no duty to protect individual from criminal attack, and individuals could not sue for govt. failure “for duty” to protect.

The readers of this article would agree with me, we have thousands of hard working honorable police officers in America and yet they do not have a duty to protect me, nor seldom arrive in time to save your live.

In Alabama citizens have the right to defend themselves while in public. Alabama is one of 43 states with citizen’s rights to arm themselves (protect) themselves from man and beast.

As I compared Alabama law to Illinois law, IL citizens are defenseless due to outdated laws. Perhaps Illinois readers also realize they are defenseless against the other dogs of our society, criminals, who assault, rape, rob, and kill.

Illinois Citizens should recognize since 1987, 43 state now have an active firearm law allowing their citizens to protect themselves from society dogs (man and beast) in public. Michigan passed just recently, and now Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio have new bills on the house floor. Some Illinois politicians (Mayor Daley, and others) will lead you to believe they know what’s best for you.

It may not be where you live, but where you travel in your life. We all travel outside of the city we call home. Call your Illinois Senator and Representative and ask him/her why citizens in 43 states have self-defense rights we don’t have? Need info: www.concealcarry.org and www.keepandbeararms.com

Why is it that RKBA foundations and gun-owner's group never go on the offensive, and challenge existing gun control laws as a violation of the 2nd amendment? Are they/we too afraid of a contrary ruling?

Heck, I'd pony up a couple of hundred bucks for the cause, if I saw a group with some spine and a lawyer who knew his stuff.

What gives; Anybody have any insights?

To Editor for Editorial page.

Citizens in 44 states “Do not fear Gun Owners who “Citizen Carry” (CC).”

In 1986 only eight (8) states allow “citizen carry” (CC) and crime was on the rise. In the year 2001, 42 states now have CC laws on the books and crime continues to drop. Researchers to the self-defense issue, has noticed crime begin dropping immediately after enactment in each state and showed up four - five years before the Brady law. Our Indiana neighbor has issued 350,000 CC permits and zero (0) has been revoked for a firearms homicide. In these states Police Chief’s are pleasantly surprised in the quality of the applicant.

There are 21 times more (est. 2,500,000) CC owners than “street” policeman (120,000) in the United States. Policemen killed 330 innocent citizens in 1996 and CC’ers (30). Statistically you are 300 times more likely to be innocently shot by a policeman than a CC owner. Sidebar: 700,000 Doctors kill by mistake 90,000 people annually in our nation. Our hearts should go out to each and every family and our heads need to be crystal clear on this issue. Also Citizen Carry citizens commit less crime that even Police officers as a statistical group.

Women are the fastest growing group of gun owners in the United States. “Dial 911 and Die” is real with 911 response times from 5 to 30 minutes. Police only stop 4% in the act violent crime. What logic would as representative suggest to a woman to “talk down” the rapist with AIDS or HIV or STD? 10 minutes is a long time. Get your watch and start talking. Do GG (Gun Grabbers) honestly think the rapist will use a condom? Women should be outraged at the GG for forcing such defenseless thinking. Did you know most rapes last from 2 to 4 hours.

Question? Why do you think, judges, probation officers, bail bondman, attorneys and social workers are given the right to CC or decide to carry illegally? If you ask they will tell you, they are dealing bad guys everyday and know the mindset of these early release felons.

Bad guys will always have guns. It is “dumb and dumber” to believe America is safer by taking away firearms from honest American Citizens or to make felons. Anti gun groups and faulty ordinances in Chicago land are doing just the opposite providing “gun free zones” for criminals to operate in.

Most all State Statues are written to protect the general public not the individual. It is the individual’s responsibility to protect themselves and their families at home and away from home.

Road Rage: It is a myth that CC owners kill cops, or citizens with Road Rage. In the United States over the last twenty years only two (2) known road rage shootings have occurred. Believe me if Road Rage shootings were a problem, the Gun Grabbers (GG’ers), would let us know. One case, after a car accident in TX, the driver begins to punch the man in the face, breaking his eye socket, nose. Profusely bleeding from the face and fearing for his life, the 65 yr old driver pulled his gun and shot the road raged driver saving his life.

· My personal thoughts: Every solid citizen who elects to “CC” carry’s a tremendous burden. This burden is to stay legal, or be charged with a felony or at least a grand jury indictment, should they ever break one of 25,000 gun laws or kill an attacking criminal. We have plenty of criminal laws to put them away for life should any CC’er turn to the dark side. · Jesus in the Bible was smart enough to cast blame on Cain for killing Abel, not blame the stone. Those who believe the “GG” fear spinners need to wake up. · One final closing thought, Christian religions and other religions teach the need to protect ones self. Jesus said in Luke 22:36 30 He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. The sword was the finest weapon outside of the home of its time, far better than rocks, clubs, and stones.

Were I ever so charged, I guess I'd have to try and nullify the jury.
Unless, of course, I were killed in the gunfight preceding my arrest.

"What gives; Anybody have any insights?"

The Illinois Constitution says, " Subject to the police power, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". That means that when Morton Grove banned handguns, the liberal Illinois judges ruled that Illinois could ban anything they wanted while stating that officials were part of the police power. In other words, Daley can carry a gun because he was part of the police power. When the citizens of Morton Grove tried to get the law before the U.S. Supreme Court, they refused to hear the case.

When we sued for the Oak Park Ban, we lost even though we didn't try to get a Second Amendment ruling.

By the way, the NRA was very helpful during the bans and I am forever grateful for the support they gave. When we lost in Oak Park, it was due to the citizens and not because of the NRA. As a past member of the Freedom committee for Oak Park, I lived a two year nighmare trying to fight back. Most of the gun owners in Oak Park sat on the sideline and hated us for making trouble with a law that they thought they could live through. My Brother-in-law was one of these although he didn't hate me, he didn't lift a finger. I wasn't around when the police came to his house to arrest him for having a gun inside his house.

That certainly is a sad state of affairs. One would think that the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution would trump the the Illinois Constitution concerning the RKBA. I suppose however, that a Federal Government which refuses to recognize the RKBA of its citizens, isn't going to lift a finger to protect those rights at the state level.

I am curious about the USSC's refusal to hear your case. Did they just dismiss it without comment, or did they give a reason?
