Supposedly at the time of Christ no one had seen a red heifer in Israel in centuries.
I though this was announced a couple of years ago as well, however.
I think an attitude of healthy skepticism is in order.

Rabbinical teaching states that, since Herod's Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D., no flawless red heifer has been born in Israel.

Here's the deal with the Red Heifer: 1) As outlined below, it is referenced in the bible that it is need for the purification of the priesthood. 2) After the capture of Jerusalem by the Jews in 1967 the rabbis got together and had a dilemma on their hands. Allow their people to build Temple III on the temple mount, and usher in all the tribulation that goes along with that experience - ie the infuriation of the Arab Nations. Or somehow to keep the status quo. 3) They found their answer in the book of Numbers and signed a proclamation. There would be no temple building until the preists could become clean and there would be no purification until Israel could produce a red heiffer. They went so far as to state that no Jew should be allowed to go up to the Temple Mount until the purification of the preisthood because the temple mount is so Holy. This effectively put the sticky situation on hold, until a red heiffer could be produced. Needless to say, many have tried to come forward with a perfectly red heiffer and all to this point have failed or been put on hold. It may be that the rabbis are beginning to get the idea that WWWIII is not going to wait for the birth of a perfect Red Heifer and at that point they will probably decide that the one they are looking at is OK.... : )

is this rare? There was another one not long ago. And another one before that. Like the White Buffalo, they come along now and then.
