Support President Bush's Judicial Nominee!

We would like you to consider attending a rally and press conference in support of Miguel Estrada, President Bush’s nominee to the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The rally will be held Wednesday, April 10th, 2002 at 12noon at the “Senate Swamp” on the Eastern side of the U.S. Capitol, opposite the Supreme Court.

The Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee, its Chairman, Senator Leahy, and Senate Majority Leader Daschle are continuing to prevent President Bush’s judicial nominees from having a fair hearing. They are applying a “liberal litmus test” to judicial nominees so as to prevent conservative judges from being appointed to the federal bench.

Many of you answered our call to support President Bush’s nomination of Judge Charles W. Pickering and watched in horror as the extreme left-wing machine prevented this well-qualified candidate, who was supported by both the American Bar Association and a broad and diverse spectrum of supporters from his home state of Mississippi, from becoming a judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The extreme left has now targeted Miguel Estrada, the President’s nominee to the Court of Appeals to the District of Columbia. His nomination has been languishing in the Senate Judiciary Committee since May 9, 2001.

Miguel Estrada is the embodiment of the American Dream. He immigrated from Honduras at the age of 15; two years later he was accepted to Columbia College, from which he graduated Magna cum Laude. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School, in 1986, once again graduating Magna cum Laude.

He served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and as the Assistant to the Solicitor General to the United States.

Mr. Estrada is well-qualified to serve on the federal bench and has shown himself to be a lawyer who believes judges should “interpret the law: not make it.”

Because of his conservative views, Senators Leahy and Daschle have blocked all efforts to give him a fair hearing in the United States Senate.

Please come to the rally, and show your support for the President’s nominee and opposition to the obstructionist tactics of left-wing extremist groups and the Democrat Senators who carry out their agenda.
