Austin Police Assistant Chief Rudy Landeros says, "Our officers will not, and let me stress this because it is very important, our officers will not stop, detain, or arrest anybody solely based on their immigration status. Period."
Landeros is openly declaring his malfeasance of duty, thus encouraging further lawlessness.
Fire him.

Nearly 8 months ago, 19 hijackers slipped through Americas immigration security net committing the most devastating terrorist attacks on American soil. What immigration security net are they talking about?

Well give it up then Austin...The border patrol has orders not to go looking for the illegals and if they happen to see one they may chase for only one mile..the last defense is the local cops..pity to see a once great nation give up it's sovereignity

So the Justice Department is allowing the local police to do their job, and the Austin Police won't do it. Can't blame Bush for that.

He should be more than fired, he should face charges of treason right along with Johnny Walker.

Landeros is openly declaring his malfeasance of duty, thus encouraging further lawlessness. I agree. This dirtbag and those like him responsible for law enforcement have somehow suddenly decided that they have the ability to determine which laws they should and should not enforce. There are several other agencies guilty of this (most of the Orange Co. police departments, the PD's of San Diego, San Joaquin Co., Los Angeles (aka Little TJ), Salt Lake City, and others around the country. This could get to be very, very exciting. I hope that it does.

Landeros is openly declaring his malfeasance of duty, thus encouraging further lawlessness. He must be trying to land a job with the GOP bigwigs.

Landeros is openly declaring his malfeasance of duty, thus encouraging further lawlessness. Malfeasance schmalfeasance. Illegal immigration is not a violation of city law. I actually applaud the city police not allowing themselves to be made an arm of the Federal government. Now if the FBI wants to come in and arrest the illegal immigrants, more power to them. Maybe they'd spend less time shooting innocent citizens if they did.

"Austin police say adding immigration duties would undo the trusting relationship local police have built with immigrants". What is that old saying",Consorting with known criminals". This guy doesn't deserve the job he has..
