I'm not saying he has to hit her back, but why couldn't he just leave? If my wife did such a thing to me I would be out the door at the next stoplight and call a cab to take me to a hotel. Come home in a day or two or maybe a week, let her stew for a while.

Chuck is very fortunate. If he so much as shoved her away in self-defense, he would be the one in jail and Major League baseball would be contemplating how long his suspension would be.

You're so very correct. I once had a client who was arrested for domestic assault after he punched his wife in self-defense as she attacked him with scissors. Fortunately for him the prosecutor had a little more common sense than the cops.

As a woman, I agree with you 100%. I'm glad to finally see women getting arrested for battering and abusing men. Abuse is absue, regardless if it's a man or a woman commiting the crime. Throw two books at her for good measure.

What kind of p***y calls the cops on his wife?

A lot of times these kinds of things are called in by third parties. I remember one cop telling me that for 30-40% of the third-party domestic violence calls they got the man was clearly the victim of some type of abuse. The difference is that guys NEVER call the cops over it.

Realize that in some states the cops can arrest the suspect if there is a clear victim, even if neither party wishes to press charges. Most of the cases of guys being battered by their wives that go to court are prosecuted in this manner.

"What kind of p***y calls the cops on his wife?" Would you rather him beat her? I agree with you Brytani. It is not uncommon for a woman to cry abuse when it did not even happen, yet the judges still believe it, but its ok for the woman to beat and throw things at a man and get away with it. Sad, but that's reality.

What kind of @$$hole hasn't figured out that if Mr. Finley dared defend himself against her attack, he'd be the one sitting in jail and being pilloried as a wife beater?

A third party called the cops.

I sit corrected on that small detail. But I still hold that it is all but impossible for a man to defend himself against an assaultive woman (and anyone who thinks there are not women who abuse their husbands as physically and profoundly as there are husbands who abuse their wives is full of it) without himself being the pilloried and imprisoned one.

Or maybe coming home never might be the best solution. There should be no battery in marriages. This so-called wife should get what's coming to her.

A woman who marries a man who had his named changed from Joe Smith to Studly McJohnson is a fool to think she has a husband, just as Finley should have realized he was not marrying wife material. These people use each other as toys and trophies until the resentment builds up into violent outbursts - it's a shame children are brought into the world as part of their self indulgent games. Now they have to go through the hell of their parents' spousal abuse and jail and perhaps divorce.
