They set up a DONATION box to raise the $3,000 for the surgery. None of your money or anyone else's is being used unless it's DONATED.

They set up a DONATION box to raise the $3,000 for the surgery. None of your money or anyone else's is being used unless it's DONATED. Great idea! Anybody want to donate to a fund to send my kids through college? Oh...wait...I got it! I've got two lovely gray cats (meeeooowwwww) who need surgery for hip replacements. I can't (ppprrrrrrrr) afford it...please consider digging deep or I'll be forced to use the business end of a shovel to fix the problem (hhhiisssssss!!!).

Sure, place a donation can at a store in my area and I'll gladly DONATE a buck or two for your kids education and your cat's surgery. I like to help out whenever I'm able.

It is indeed a free economy. But it's just a shame that one does not prioritize human good over animal good. I feel bad for the little doggy too. But how many uninsured people are there in the country (this is not a plea for socialized medicine...but merely to say that feeling this sorry for a dumb animla seems silly). The cirme here is not so much that the little doggy was killed, but the method of cruelty by which it was killed. This sort of cruelty worsens the crime and is the main evil in this action. otherwise, the PETA people are right and killing chickens for food is just as evil. Wasteful use of God's resouces is evil. But, animals are not people and we must not get too worked up and willing to spend too much money on them. As far as veteranarians go. They are great people. But, it is a shame that all that skill goes towards animals and not people. It is a free market yes, but most veteranarians get a sense of humanitarianism and warm-fuzziness for helping out animals. If they are out for the money, fine. But if you want warm fuzzies, don' do it at wasting your precious skills on non-rational beings. A true humanitarian would treat huamns, not animals. Sorry about the rant. I just read the PETA website and am in a reactioanry mood. Maybe I am being knee-jerk here.

Yes, you are being knee jerk.
We spend money, energy and love on many things that bring us pleasure, that is what freedom is. And warm fuzzies are not bad to have, you should try it.
I believe you have crossed a line on the opposite end of the bell curve from our Peta "friends". They got messed up when they said animals have equal value as people, you got messed up when you reacted that people are the only thing of value. There are a lot of things worth spending money and energy saving in this life. Some people save animals, some save old buildings, some restore classic cars, some save people. To make your choice the only worthwhile one is not respecting the freedom that let you choose it, or the joy to be found in many of our pleasures.

And my equines will help too... they are running on my profile.....

You can't be serious.
First of all, our "healthcare system" has nothing to do with the animal's care. That will be handled by the owner and their personally funded insurance plan, if any.
Secondly, it's the owners money. Not really your concern. Frankly, it ain't your money.
