Well unfortunately its too late to stop terrorism by developing energy independence and most Middle Eastern oil is consumed by Europe and Asia not the US.

Islam--prone as it is to tyranny, fanaticism, butchery, and mayhem--is not always and implacably hostile to the rest of the world. There are some Muslim societies that have managed to ween themselves off the nectar of hate: Malaysia and Turkey come to mind.

The Arabs, on the other hand, have never given up their dreams of sweeping across the entire world. And I'd rather be fighting the Arabs than the Muslims anyway. There are only 400MM of them.

I agree that Pan Arab fanaticism just as dangerous as radical Islam.

I believe these are inextricably linked. I call it Pan Arab Islamic fascism. When Pan Arabism and Islam meet that's where the problem presents itself. Which is why you have Islamic Pakistanis or Islamic Malaysians, for exmaple, siding with the Palestinians and cheering for the Intifada and Jihad against Israel. What in the heck do these Islamics have in common with Arab Islamics attacking Israel? The answer is that they have bought into Pan Arabism and its fascistic beliefs.

"Oh surprise, surprise. Arafat's palestinian terrorists were desecrating and occupying churches all over Lebanon when they were plunging that country into the hell-hole. At that time the Maronites were not the politically correct victims so he could quite easily get away with it."

Amen. THose who forget the past (the persecution of Lebanese Christians) are doomed to repeat it....

I do agree that tribalism plays a huge part in what's happening in many Arab and Muslim countries. But the psychotic, murderous street mobs are still a small fraction of the population at large. Unfortunately (and as usual), the murder-mobs are better news footage than the many more people quaking in their houses (or out in the countryside ignoring the whole mess).

Oh, no question we have to wage full war against terrorists and the countries that harbor them (including Arafat). No point crying over spilled oil now...

Israel should be killing Arafat and his gangsters for us but they are not either a) because we are restraining them ( which is why I oppose foreign aid even to Israel) or b) Sharon is unwilling. If a is true we should stop restraining them if b is true we should pray for a restoration of Bibi.

TOTALLY agree. I saw somewhere that if Arafat is killed, Sharon's government would topple. I thought to myself: "Great! Start with a clean slate!" Arafat has been the common thread in the horrible history of Israeli/Palestinian relations -- out he goes! Sharon has been trying to please everyone, and hence has proven himself completely ineffective. Out he goes as well!

Well the opinion polls say something different.

I wish you were right, ellery. But you are not. Sometimes, entire cultures do become "sick." It has happened in Europe before. It is happening in the Arab world now. And the Arab leaders bear ALL of the responsibility for it.

Even better -- then I can say it without being accused of being an anti-Arab racist.

Bibi wouldn't do it either.

If Sharon--the old general and war veteran, Arafat's arch enemy--won't do it, no one will. There is a bigger game afoot, imo. Israel's existence is not directly threatened (yet) by Arafat. It is, however, by Saddam Hussein.

You saw my pun and raised me one masturbation joke - well done, Sir Lent.

Maturbation? You know, you don't have to actually touch the phallic symbol or metaphor. You can just watch it if that's ok with you? To each his own though.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ. We don't serve or worship buildings. Jesus is NOT physically dependent on that place for his survival. Bomb the birthplace, raid it Israel... kill the suicide bombers. We can rebuild it after the people and the land are safe. Jesus is not at all worried about the buildings. He is worried about his FAMILY members, the physical and the spiritual ones. *********( well put)
