the IRA has between 2-5 .50 calibre Barrett sniper rifles due to American contacts, probably the same group that robbed the US Army Reserve barracks in the 1980's and supplied those Armalites to the IRA quartermasters.

I used to have documentation detailing the useage of these firearms by the IRA, data on the individuals killed with them, and the capture of one of the rifles but since lost it.

other than the IRA and whatever is left of the .50 cal's the US Government sent to the mujihadeens (sp) in Afghanistan, no other crimes have been committed with them that I know of. Even the .50 cal's that the Branch Davidians had were not used to shoot at the Feds at Waco (see the article above for more detail).

Dims are afraid that you will use it on DIMS! An armed society is still free. Dims want to take your money and give it to others, more deserving than you. They can't do that if you can hit them from 2,000 yard out.

No, but it's FUN to fire a big bore. Some people just can't stand the thought of someone, somewhere doing something that they enjoy...

Who is that crazed looking character in the picture? And, where are his safety glasses?

I fired one on Saturday, have the empty cartridge for a souvenir. It is fun, but expensive. The rifles cost several thousand dollars, and I understand that the ammo is about $5 a round.

All the State Legislators have to do in Cali is utter the magic words "...weapons of choice for Drug Dealers," and the people of California will beg them for more Gun Control!

Why don't they just do an all-out ban of everything that goes "BANG" and get it over with?

No, that would be the honest thing to do.

Humm. I remember my uncle used to have a .50 calibre rifle in one his gun cases, which we used to refer to as the "elephant gun." (He had gone on safari in Kenya long before that was judged politically correct, and had shot a water buffalo and a number of lions and leopards, though not an elephant as far as I know.) It was a remarkable weapon, very attractive to a small boy. Not a lot of them are used to hold up banks or in drive-by shootings, as far as I have heard.

Dandy Don's a busy boy. Now he want to allow city and district attorneys access to DROS records of gun sales. Click here for info.

Easiest way to get around the .50 caliber ban.
Invent the .499 caliber rifle. A skinnier bullet should have better ballistic qualities.

Because they are not 'gunning' for the criminal. They are after sportsmen who compete peacefully with this firearm. The antigunners love criminals but hate legitimate sportsmen.

You have greatly misjudged these folks. They're not out to stop you from having fun. They want to make sure that when they come to squash your "rebellion" - understand that your rebellioin will be trying to re-establish constitutional rule in the USA; something that has passed away long ago - they want to make sure you have a very difficult time stopping their armored vehicles.

With today's array of hardware versus what we as civilians can scrape up, we better hope a lot of the military sides with us. The hardware we own is mostly inadequate to give pause to any but the most lightly-armed agencies.

I think that what we all have to start doing this fall is print up leaflets (Yes, with our own money! Paper is cheap remember.) and start handing them out to everybody that we see walking into gun stores, gun shows, and outdoor supply stores. We could start to pass out leaflets telling everybody that ANTI GUN DEMOCRATS and a few selected RINOS want gun bans in response to the terrorist attacks. Make them all look really stupid! Gun owners had an effect in 1994. I think that we could have a hell of an effect in 2002! Right now the Democrats are weak. Now is the time to hit them hard! Bring up the fact that self defense is a human right and DEMOCRATS are against people being able to use that right. DEMOCRATS and a few selected RINOS are against people being able to defend themselves.

Remind outdoors sportsmen about the taxes that DEMOCRATS want to impose on them. You could print up points like "DEMOCRAT Sen. so-and-so wants a five cent tax on every bullet that you buy including .22 ammo. What's going to prevent him or her from wanting twenty-five cents per bullet next year?"

I know that there is some really good stuff out there for printing up leaflets on the internet on sites like the Second Ammendment Sisters site. We have to remind the population of what the ANTI GUN DEMOCRATS and a few selected RINOS are all about. We have to hit these clowns hard this year!

I hunt deer with a .50 caliber rifle. Actually, a flintlock, to be more specific.

Not a .499

It'd be too hard to sleev a .50

Better to invent the .5001

It's MUCH easier to oversize a bore...

Hey, that's got a nice ring to it:

.5001

I imagine we can expand the case size and powder charge at the same time. And when they ban that, we can neck it down to 0.48, and so on...

These windbag politicians are playing right into the hands of Barrett etc. I never wanted one of these rifles before, but if these @$$holes think it shouldn't be allowed, I'm going to get me one as soon as I can afford it.
