Bring Back the Blue Border!

Posted on 03/31/2002 10:09:16 AM PST by Texaggie79

It appears that some blind FReepers have talked John into making the border a white background. This has caused several things. First, there is no division and the whole page is cluttered. Second, it looks very amateurish, while the blue border added a VERY professional look.

Don't worry, I'm not threatening to leave over it, like some whiners, but I just want to make a thread to see how other FReepers feel about the Blue border. I want to know who the blind FReepers are that think it actually looks better and would risk newcomers thinking that this is some rank amature site that has just started.

I liked the flag and the blue border. I, at first, felt uncomfortable with the new stuff, but after a while of checking stuff out, I'm very happy with it now! If too many people didn't like the blue border maybe a lighter shade of blue, or of the flag????? I do think that the border made it look extra nice, but if it makes people's pc load longer then who cares? Long Live FRee Republic, and God bless the USA!

Dull is good. If you are looking at FR at work you want something that looks like a Google search result. The flag background can be spotted 20 feet away and screams 'recreational surfing' going on.

Excellent point. Also, the flag border really slowed down scrolling on the page.

Like I said, I loved the flag, but if FReepers really didn't like it and it was screwing with peoples scrolling, I don't have to have it. I have to have the blue border to navigate.

I agree. Also, there is way to much extraneaous stuff. The previous format was much easier to navigate.

I'm more suprized that people actually like this white on white. It goes against everything I have learned as a web designer and have seen with internet users.

The blue border takes away a lot of that clutter.

On the font... I think that it added a very modern design look. It went great with the blue border.

I also loved the flag. It gave the page a very clean professional look.

No, it made it look like some amateur hack's idea of what a professional job would look like. It was a distracting and pointless waste of space.

The white on white is sort of weird, but doesn't really affect anything. The way it was when it was first presented was more appealing to me personally. I would say to the designer that they should go with what they originally intended with the design. If they start making aesthetic changes based on complaints they will have a website designed by committee. I know some people that think Orange, Green, and Yellow are the best colors for any website.

The blue border was fine, the flag one made the scrolling jump or something.......instant headache, like car sickness.
