DC Chapter Pays Respects at the Pentagon - Continues Plans for the Patriot Rally for America

Yesterday, DC Chapter FReepers continued their weekly vigil at the Pentagon to pay respect to the victims of the September 11th terrorist attack and to show support for our nation's servicemen and women. The honor roll for the 2 hour vigil was BufordP, sauropod and Dave Dilegge. Sauropod brought along a tribute to Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Dickenson, USA and placed it on the memorial. It was a fine spring day and the turnout on the knoll overlooking the damaged side of the Pentagon was steady, with a constant flow of people coming and going the entire time we were there. As usual many stopped by to chat with us about why we were there and thanked us for just being out there. Afterwards, the three met up with Kristinn, Angelwood, TgslTakoma, Connie and James Parmalee of the Northern VA GOP at a local restaurant to discuss our ongoing plans for the April 20th Patriots Rally for America.

According to the news and weather guys this past week (I haven't seen local news this weekend) peak viewing is supposed to be on this Tuesday coming up. As long as it doesn't rain too hard or get too windy, we should still have enough cherry blossoms to make folks "oooh" and "ahhh" this weekend. If I hear anything different tonight, I'll let you know.

Can everyone chill, please and get the focus back on the rally ?
I'm not interested in dredging up the squabbles of last week. Just because someone takes a potshot doesn't mean you have to respond. Sheesh.

Done- and I asked that the comments be removed. Seems that the request was heeded.
(Still, your chastisement would be better levied at the person who made the potshot, since that is the root cause.)

Hey Dave. Thanks for posting the thread and the pix. Kristinn and I stopped back at the Pentagon after the meeting so I could set out the fresh flowers, and we cleaned up the dead stuff and some cigarette butts, etc. I have a few pictures (taken after dark). I'll upload them to my computer and send them to you via email; but it'll have to wait until my ni-mh batteries recharge. (Either the rapid charger I bought is really lousy or the batteries are lousy. The batteries only lasted for a few shots before dying.)
While I was cutting the flowers, a couple of Indian ladies asked if they could help, and they did some cutting and arranging and then they thanked me for allowing them to help. And I thanked them for helping. :-)
At the same time another lady came up and we talked for a couple of minutes. She is an EMT and her daughter is a NYPD officer and EMT in Manhattan, and her husband works on Wall Street. She said the dust-covered shoes he wore to work on 9-11 are still sitting on their front porch. He won't go near them... she said he's absolutely traumatized by what he saw and experienced that day. She told me he came into the city through the station at the WTC - nine minutes before the first plane hit. She was a very nice lady; I hope she stops by FR when she gets back home to NY.

It is for a good cause.
By the way, I don't think enough people thank you for the Pentagon shrine and your dedication in keeping an ongoing memorial going there.
Thank you for doing that.

Appreciate it, thanks.
Now, we just have to figure out who keeps taking the memorial card for Barbara Olson. For the third week in a row it has gone missing, while the one for John Moran is still there.

Hey you got me Oneida, Ive been wanting to come to one of these for awhile, starting with the Chinese Recon plane incident at the Chinese Embassy - but couldnt make it due to family obligations.
I'll make this one and look forward to meeting all the Freep Peeps. btw, the pics from the Chinese Embassy Freep were the best and funniest Ive ever seen posted at a FReep Rally.

Thank you, Dave for your faithfulness and for posting these weekly threads. DC Freepers are great American role models.

Thanks for the ping, Dave.
As you know, I am in Jacksonville, FL working on my mother's "Honey Do" list. Mid-day is too hot to work in the yard, and the local Public Library is air condidioned and equipped with FReeRepublic FRiendly computers, so I can FReep during the hot hours.
I'll be back too late to help much with the planning for the Patriot Rally, but I look forward to seeing you all on the 13th. And for that final week, I'll certainly do what I can.
Eagles Up!

I was in Costco yesterday exchanging socks that I purchased to send to our sailor. After I told the service desk lady they were for the troops in Afganistan she said "I would not send them anything". I thought I had misunderstood her so I said they were for our troops. She said 'I don't believe in war and I would not send them anything'. After I asked her if she would do nothing even after we were attacked, she still said she would send them nothing and she did not belive in war. I left after telling her I did not believe we could just sit down and let them continue trying to kill us. You page says that you're in Kalifornia. 'Nuff said!

Now, we just have to figure out who keeps taking the memorial card for Barbara Olson. WTF? Maybe a Clintonista?
To: Dave Dilegge
But wait! According to the French...the Pentagon attack never happened! < / rolling eyes >
BRAVO ZULU for your paying respects - wish I could do the same, but the drive from Colorado is prohibitive....
Carry on smartly!
