Learn how to navigate, It's very easy. Click on topics and Add to your side bar what you wish. This is like having our own custom made FR. I think its great!! I love it and I think JimRob and all the people working on this are doing an outstanding job.

Well I refuse to write an Opus over a change of format. As a new church planter we always say that the seven words that will kill a church quicker than anything is "We've never done it that way before" So get used to it. Change is life.Life is change. Give me your change.Whatever. And Freep on brothers and sisters!!

Oh...I'm sorry....I thought you meant it

I recently got a new PC, and am having a difficulty getting used to XP.

Like some of the posters discussing the new format, sometimes I wish I had my old Windows 98 back...but, I will get used to it...soon I hope. I also have a new keyboard...make lots of mistakes with it..even though it is better than my old one.

Funny thread, but it does sort of touch on at least one real-world issue.

In the tech world, you've roughly got a 60-40 split between "new tech at any cost" geeks versus "any change is to be avoided at all costs" nerds.

The new tech at any cost crew typically has more free time on their hands. They tend to be younger, and they always want to play with the latest bleeding edge tech tools.

You can generally spot them tinkering with things that aren't broken (what' that old saying). The sure test to identify them is to ask them if they asked their USERS first before they made any changes to an existing system. Those who tinker without asking their users first for input are dead ringers for membership in this new tech group.

The other group of techies tend to be older. They usually have less free time on their hands, and they've probably seen a few good systems stop working because somebody thought they were clever enough to implement a new feature (that no one asked for). In fact, they generally don't want any changes (would require re-testing, after all). They don't want to re-train users (ala new interface or new features). They don't want to break anything. They don't want to get screamed at by end-users. Now, these traits would all be great and wonderful except that this group will often demand that umpteen managers sign-off on even the smallest "enhancement". Specs have to be finished, signed-off, blessed, and scores of meetings held before the smallest system improvement is implemented.

So inevitably the good project manager has to carefully balance these two forces against each other so that they come to a consensous somewhere in the middle.

Such is life in modern-day America.

I liked "I'm too busy Freeping!"

heheh BTW Don't you just LOVE newbies who register the same day that they start posting hateful ugly replies on the threads? Aren't they just precious? (Precious is a word we use in the south as an insult. Instead of calling someone an ugly name, we say "Isn't she just precious!")

I am going to start calling the hateful NEWBIES = "Precious"! hahahahahaha!!!

GOOD COMMENT! My 21 year old son and I are always debating issues like this. Looks like he and I are a geek and a nerd. Just take your pick which one of us is which on any given day. He is in Florida right now having a good time.

Perhaps.

For ANOTHER perspective, though, check out what I posted on a previous thread:

From Complaining Customers are Good for Business:

by Bob Leduc

"Remember the Coca Cola marketing disaster a few years ago?
They tried to switch Coke drinkers to New Coke. It didn't work. Fortunately, the company quickly recognized the problem and had the resources to recover fast. Their follow up research revealed that only 1 unhappy customer in 50 takes time to complain. The other 49 just quietly switch brands..."

THIS is my concern. WHO KNOWS how many lurkers and newbies will leave in frustration.
Fortunately, we have a lot of veteran FReepers who are not afraid to SQUAWK when there is a problem.
And, perhaps even MORE fortunately, John Robinson seems to be a fast learner! ;)
Perhaps MANY of the "newbies" that you disdain are LONG-TIME lurkers, who only NOW are registering to post, when they see what they perceive to be grave dangers to the best hope for honest, open, unfiltered conservative thought and opinion on the Internet.

For many of us, Free Republic is a "precious" national treasure.
