Please explain the benifit of the 1 1/2 inch distracting faded flag border that scrunches up the hard news text in between two borders now. I agree that the left sidebar flag has to go and I believe John will take it down because the feedback has been so negative. He'll soon have all the kinks worked out.

So far I haven't had ANY trouble given this is a Pentium MMX with 200megahertz chip.....

So far I like the new format...as long as we keep the locales or at least have a way for state chapters to easily communicate so as to fight the state and local battles efficiently. Well done guys!

I simply created links on my browser's toolbar to all the
forums I wish to view, and the only forums I "subscribe" to and have shown on the FR sidebar are News/Current Events and Breaking News.........
It works rather well............
To: davetex
I agree; I was scared to death of using it at first, but it's working out well.
The only suggestion I would have is the following: On the MY LOCALE page, there is a thingee that lets you delete something really stupid that you posted without thinking (me, not you). I would like to have that thingee on regular postings so not everyone can see when I've typed something without my brain in gear.

If a dumbass carpenter like me can learn my way around in a short time, I would think you smart guys could also.
I've seen a lot of changes to this forum since I came on board, pi$$ed and moaned about every one of 'em, yet there's no other place like it for a free ranging exchange of views.
And if your web site is so easy to use and you're so proud of it, why not link it on your profile?
Just asking. :^)

Dang, and here I was ready to argue over the flag border and you turn out to be one of the nice people. So I now remember that this is Easter, and the way I should be is a little more like you have behaved in this thread....
To: hole_n_one
You've done what I always thought I should go ahead and do, and thats to set up my own front end page to the FreeRepublic topics, latest posts, and functions. Good for you!
To: jraven
If FR can keep the new look and make it a bit easier to get breaking news, etc. they'll have the best of both worlds.1) Go to the News/Activism forum.
2) Click on "Topics" at the top of the page.
3) Scroll down the topic list and find breaking news - click on it.
4) Look for the "Click here to subscribe" link - click it.
5) Repeat for other topics you would like in your sidebars.

It looks as if you and the other twenty-six people who like this format
will soon have the whole site to yourselves. I, personally, am close to giving up on it.
Makes me sad; I'm a huge FR fan.

You said you like the new format. I agree with you. I think it is a masterpiece. How can you? You just joined today.
To: Maedhros
I'm afraid that I don't like it much either, sigh. It is pretty for sure, but I miss being able to see all the recent posts quickly in a long column for easy access. Is there a way to stay with the old style?

So does that mean that to be able to navitgate FR we all have to now go out
and buy the newest computer on the shelf? My two year old IBM isn't enough anymore?
To: EggsAckley
Well, I am glad to see you know how to "Find in Forum." :-)
To: EggsAckley
What a surprise!
This is the last time I give up Free Republic for Lent.

There does seem to have developed an "insider" group that is deaf to real comments that happen to disagree with their world view -- or at least in this case -- what is a comfortable user interface.
The use of border graphics and tables causes the browsers I use to render very slowly -- and on my cell phone connected old laptop, will be a big big turn off.
But to the inners , us outers, have no legitimate complaint, just a whine. Well that whine is reality as heard by the closed ears of a the inner circle become too enamored of their innerity.
Let us hope that whatever the cause of that deafness, that it be over soon and forgotten, and the prior great interface of the forum return.

It is egregiously MORE difficult to use. It is a billion times slower loading, it hurts the eyes, the color of the graphics makes it almost unreadable, the font size is too small, it is incompatable with WebTV, the ridiculous side bars eat up most of the screen space, the self search function is no loger user friendly the top of the forun page, is halved, on WebTV, so that it is unreadable, it wastes my time, gives me a migraine, and it looks like garbage.
To: bvw
LOL @ "innerity!" Well, I for one, refuse to go out and buy a brand new comp when my IBM is less than two years old. I can't do anything about my wimpy dial-up; it's all I can get. So I guess, beyond being "whiners," we're also screwed!
