Yes it was
The US considered it a anti-Soviet neutral.
The US hoped/wanted
( along the lines of say, Finland or Socialist Sweden. Interestigly enough Sweden's economy during the post-war period had just about the same amout of state control as the SFRY)
Joint stock companies/open markets/free currency exchange? no I didnt think so
The entire military structure of the SFRY was geared to defending against a Warsaw Pact invasion.
So all the Yugoslav weapons were soviet, MIG airforce, TU tanks, Kalashnikovs, why did the soviets arm their enemy?
Interesting that you would condem a country for being communist when England was pretty much a commie country from 1946 until (thankfully) Maggie came to save the day.
England was a commie country? Who said, "an iron curtain has come down over europe".......... Winston Churchill 1946. Has the communist party ever had an MP elected to the British House of Commons.......No. Did Britain and Russia have nuclear weapons targeted at each other....Yes. What was the British army of the Rhine there for?.......To fight the Russians. Who were the Glorious Gloucesters?......One of the English regiments fighting in Korea.
guilt by association ?
So you'd rather stay in bed with Mr. 3rd Way T. Blair and "it all depends on the meaning of the word 'is'" Clinton.
Where did I say or imply that?
Sure, there may be a couple of lefty guys mentioned on the site, but on the whole it is pretty conservative and anti-commie.
Name one conservative or anti communist listed to speak at their meeting.
BTW not all conservatives are flag waving tub thumpers....Here is a conservative site which may get your dander up......www.lewrockwell.com......point is that being conservative doesn't mean one's mind shuts off when it comes to foriegn policy.
I'll let Spar post some links for you to pursue....He has a nice one which the English MP's prepared
Probably the same fellow travellers, but not the majority
and a few showing how Clinton effectively allied us w/ Al-Queeda in the Yugoslav Wars
For you, it all seems comes down to Clinton. If he did it, it was wrong, according to you, and if that makes you a fan of Milosevic et al so be it. Well what happens when Hillary gets elected President and declares she is in favour of fighting Al-Queeda, will you be pro Al-Queeda then. Should make for some interesting posts from you.
By the way, this isnt personal, its just that we seem to have very different points of view, and a different recollection of history.
I would point out to you that while Yugoslavia's inventory included T-34 and T-55's and eventually M-84 tanks they also have quite a number of Sherman tanks from WWII. The Yugoslav war strategy as seen during Clinton's Monica war was to fight against a Soviet attempt to bring them back to the fold.
