I read the sidebar info again.
To add a topic to the sidebar, select a topic from the Topics page. The lefthand column will provide a link "Click here to subscribe."
I tried to do this but don't see any thing like what is described.

I just looked under the "My Preferences" screen, and I could not find the option to use the old version of FR.
This is truly a sad day.

With its ease of use and effectiveness, the original FR format far surpassed this new-fangled one. The new format does not seem to add anything to the FR experience; rather, it takes much away. This judgement is not based on the normal human compulsion to be uncomfortable with "change." But "change" for the sake of "change" is simply unnecessaary. Why fix something that is not broken? It was a cinch -- before the changes -- to scan the posts and see what was what. Now, the new format will create longer scanning times and even then, it seems we will miss many meritorious posts; and most of us do not have the extra time. As it was, we enjoyed FR and spent a significant amount of time on it because the posts were interesting -- but they were also better organized before you made the changes! No breaking news side bar? That is nuts. That alone simplified the scanning process. I don't mind spending 2 hours on FR to read the posts that I want to -- but to spend 2 hours scanning to see what I "may want to read" is fruitless. What was the purpose and intent of the change? If it was to keep FR popular and improve it, I do not believe the goal was met.

I've been using both the Beta and the old version for about a week now. At first i liked the Beta version - it was something new to play with and i liked the feature of adding different forums to the sidebar. But then i started to realize that it was taking me a lot longer to surf through the Beta version and to find articles that interested me. So eventually i found myself migrating back to the old version for less stressful surfing.
What i dislike about the New FR up to this point: 1) doesn't have the convenient search at the top of the page; 2) the sidebar forums keep changing position..for instance, i'd rather Breaking News stay at the top; 3) the polls are okay, but usually are just a distraction and means more clicking and more frustration as you have to scroll down to see the sidebar listings; 4) in short, the layout seems too busy and you often have to pause to try and figure out what part of FR you're looking at and what you need to click on next in order to get where you want to go
Hopefully things will be fine-tuned a bit over the coming days and weeks. For example, would like to see an option to be able to start off by viewing all postings from all forums or else postings from a particular forum of your own choosing. And would like to be able to use the search to search through all forums at once, not just one at a time.

I have to agree that so far, this is awful! I just spent 3 days, over 24 hours after a new install of Windows, trying to get my machine back to the way it looked before. For the most part I did, though created some other problems along the way, and now this!
I thought I was somewhere else, and am not sure where to go to get what I want, now that I know I am where I want to be!
I agree with, if it aint broke don't fix it!

Do I really have to open Windows Explorer and clear my cookies just to log off? Seems so. That's a pain when you've got two or three Freepers under the same roof.
Other than that, I'm starting to get used to it although it still seems awfully busy, busy, busy.

I like the new format except for the left sidebar. There needs to be a control at the top of the page to open/close it.
Over all, it looks very nice!

I must be one of those sensitive types. All I can think of is the people who did this overhaul and their feelings, lol. I was shocked when I saw this this morning, but I feel up to a challenge. I managed to get the Breaking News into my sidebar, so I do feel able to conquer the rest of the site.
I hope we can adjust to this and even like it after a while.

Good grief, what a mess! Latest Posts/Threads (whatever) takes FOREVER to load. I feel like I'm on a dial-up again!
I don't want 250 messages on the "latest threads" page, only on the threads themselfs.
Instead of scrolling, it jumps.
Right sidebar is off the screne sometimes.
Site navigation is a maze. What a cluttered mess!
What the hell happened to the "Find in Forum" feature on the FReeper Home Pages?????
What a friggen' nightmare!
THIS SUCKS !!!!!!!
This FR makeover ain't EVEN ready for prime time! Bring back yesterdays full feature, faster version.

An interesting thing happens when you use a mouse with a wheel. If you push the wheel and crank the image to go to the top (or bottom), the text goes flying by, but the flags on the left slowly drift up. It is related to the refresh rate of the monitor and the size of the flag logo. Reminds me of the old time westerns where the wheels of the stage coach turned and as it picked up speed, the spokes slowed, stopped, and reversed themselves.
BTW, does this color text bother anybody? I compose my responses in outlook express, use the spell check, then cut and paste the HTML into the response box.

I can't find anything, anymore!
I just logged on to this mess.
I'll try again later when I calm down.

Hey, I just looked at this new FR for the first time about 10 minutes ago. At first I was confused, but after exploring it and changing some settings as explained, I see that it is a vast improvement.
Take some time to look around, this is great.

The Flag graphic is horrendous. It makes scrolling like watching Moulin Rouge on fast forward.

I don't know if this has been posted already..the threads too big for me to read it in its entirety..but the self-search option does not work in my netscape ..only internet explorer. In netscape, the background gif shows up. If I click on view source, everything is there... WEIRD

Oh this is just pissy. I don't want to choose a sidebar topic. I want to know what FR posters think is the latest and greatest breaking news.
To: Nogbad
Get used to it. My upset passed after a few minutes.
