 The only question now is whether Bush will realise how disastrous the
last month has been in his retreat from the moral clarity displayed after September 11.

The moral clarity was not in place for a good while after 9/11.  Mark
is mistaken here.  For quite some time, the State department, in their
criticism of Israeli response to terrorism, operated on the notion that
blowing up Israelis was not as bad as blowing up Americans.  Only
recently did Bush allow as to how Israel has a right to prevent her
extinction.  And I'm not sure how long even that will last.

Steyn's absolutely right, as usual. The Passover Massacre is unbearable. Anybody who ever thought - out of some misguided Judeo-Christian "niceness" - that Islam was just another world religion, and had any respect for Christians and Jews, cannot possibly continue to believe this.

The truth is that Islam has been trying to kill both Jews and Christians since its inception. Sometimes it gets knocked back by superior power, sometimes it's undermined by the fact that it destroys any society it touches.

But somehow it has never forgotten how to keep on hating and trying to destroy.

The President has been reduced to mumbling Beltway shorthand about the need to comply with "Tenet" and "Mitchell", while Dick Cheney's shuttle diplomacy to shore up "moderate" Arab support for war with Iraq has resulted only in spectacular rapprochements between Iraq and Kuwait, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, etc. Wednesday's bloodbath should open their eyes: just because it's Easter, that's no reason to lay any more huge eggs.

Stand outside several churches, and several synagogues, at the end of services.
Watch the people come out. How are they behaving? What are their facial expressions and body language indicating?

OK. Did you find that generally people leaving services were content, animated, happy, talkative, and gregarious?

Now stand outside several mosques and repeat this study. Out they straggle, subdued, angry, stressed.

What does this tell you?

No. I assume he's Christian; a Baptist. Read again:

I have actually done this, outside Temple Mt in Jerusalem, and let me tell you, the hate and murder in those eyes is enough to give you the willies. NOT ONE looks happy or refreshed, not one is carrying on a happy conversation with friends not seen for a week or so.

I would assume "Mark Steyn" is a descendant of Dutch or Rhineland Jews, now a baptised Christian.

That is what is probable based upon the name.

Where is the media during this Holy Week/Passover/Easter? I have not heard any appeals to the Arabs that they not attack or bomb or kill Jews (or Christians); yet I seem to recall the media begging that the US not attack Afghanistan during Ramadan (or however it's spelled)... Am I wrong in this?

There is a very large mosque / muslim center in my hometown where that is indeed the case. Bearded men, wearing surplus army jackets, glowering at me, the infidel.

Counterexample: the small local Amadiyya mosque, which seems to attract agreeable people from the looks of them (though I don't know what their imam says inside).
