What was the date on that one? The guy in the lower right, just to the left of the Nazi, looks like Lyndon Johnson.

It says literally this: "Great Stalin is the banner of friendship between the peoples of the USSR!". I guess what was meant was that he was equally mean to everybody in the Soviet Union. re: post#41 -schools, I disagree. Sadly but true, with the exception of some renounced US universities, the rest of the academic institutions here do not grant very good education up to the world standard and the USSR DID have excellent universities. Been there, seen it, been here compared it, sorry but true.

I think that one on the left says,
" Help build the White Sea Canal!
"Meet your norm and live, for a while".

If you can find "Moscow Parade", for some reason marked "Parade Moscou" on the jacket where I found it, it is worth watching for the overall atmosphere.

If you haven't read it already, you would really enjoy reading
The New Dealers War by Thomas Fleming. It's a no-holds-barred, warts-and-all, look at FDR's conduct of World War II.

It does!! If he did that in a high-school today he'd be expelled wouldn't he. My, how times have changed.
I think that's the "Middle-America grass-roots mafia" symbol he's flashing there LOL

Thousands died building that canal, and just a few years later, no one was using it. Great account in Gulag Archipelago, Second Volume

The banner on top:
European Community Papers on the table:
Atlantic Treaty, Map of West Europe, Treaty of European Capitalist Cooperation, Administration of The Provision of Mutual Security, General Treaty.
Verse below:
The price of this cooperation is clear to all
Smiles on the lips
Sweet speeches
Deceit in the thoughts
A knife behind the back!
Signed: A. Bezymensky

Your 59:
European Alliance
Understood among the beloved,
Such a scene of friendship.
Smiles on the lips,
Speech like oily balm,
In the thoughts, falsehood,
Behind the back, a knife!
