Forgot to say it looks like a paranoid Norman Rockwell.
To: Gladwin
Ol' Uncle Joe! Kids loved him (the ones who lived, anyway).
Bump!

"Let's not forget that old Nazi motto at Auschwitz: Arbeit Macht Frie (Work will make you free!)." Nein! School-To-Work shall make you free! Leave no child behind!

I'm still trying to figure out the one with the bombs above. "Join the USSR in exploiting your resources, or we will blow you up!!!"

LOL! I just sent this as E-mail to my boss with the image in the background and text overlaying it stating
"The Proletariat wishes you a HAPPY EASTER".
I think he just spit out his coffee...

Here's an interesting one. It looks like a response to FDR's "four freedoms" speech. The title is "American freedoms" or something like that ("Svoboda po-Amerikanski" is the legend at the bottom). I suppose the KKK lynching scene is "freedom from fear," but I don't know about the others. The letters on top of the skyscraper say "Wall Street".

Hahah.. Svobodo po amerikanski - means "Freedom - american style"
To: albee
actually it means "Great Stalin - symbol of friendship between nations of USSR"
To: Gladwin
The one on the left says "We make the desert bloom", on the right "They turn cities and villages into desert"
To: geaux
"American-Style freedom." The backdrop is "Uall" (Wall) Street." Freedom of the press (the guy blowing ducks out of a paper trumpet), personal freedom (the lynch scene), freedom of association and meeting (the police-attacked demonstration), freedom of opinion (the ossified jurist).

The one on the left says "We make the desert bloom", on the right "They turn cities and villages into desert" Mine is more accurate, methinks.

The one on the left says "We make the desert bloom", on the right "They turn cities and villages into desert" My guess was, "When you're at the construction site ... don't smoke near the explosives."

To blab = to help the enemy.I kinda like it the way it looks ... hoi tato - Bpary nomoratb. Sounds like a commercial slogan. "Hey, good-lookin', let's party with Nomo ratburgers!"

hoi tato - Bpary nomoratb Some of the resemblances of their letters to ours are misleading, especially in their cursive script. A closer transliteration would be:
Boltat' - vragu pomogat'.

Can you translate this for us?

When I was a kid we had a missionary who smuggled a bunch of posters out of Russia. This was in the 1950s or 60s and it was very dangerous for him to do this. It was unreal the propaganda they had in their posters. At one time we had postcard size copies of them. I wish I knew where those are now. One was of Christ getting drunk at a wedding. The posters ridiculed USA, our politics, religion, etc. Now M. Gorbechev admits it was all propaganda.
