FreeRepublic: A place for "grass-roots conservatism on the web" or not?
Me

Posted on 03/28/2002 8:04:49 AM PST by sheltonmac

Rather than crash the pro-Bush orgy threads, I thought I would honor the requests of the "we must support the president at all costs" crowd and let them bask in their Republican utopia in ignorant bliss. Consider this a thread that seeks actual debate and discussion concerning the "accomplishments" of our current president. Feel free to voice your support or opposition to the president's policies. After all, dissension, even among conservatives, can be healthy.

This thread is in response to the blatant display of sheer ignorance on the part of some FReepers. There have been several threads initiated lately that have included some rather disturbing posts. Without naming names, I would like to share some of those with you:

"I guess when you want to get MEANINGFUL CFR you avoid the obvious veto bait and keep the issue out of the dem's hands, so that hopefully you can get a Senate elected and some JUDGES appointed.

I guess when you are running a WAR you don't have time for this stuff that is nothing more than petty political junk. Instead, you get the bill where the SC can decide it."

This person supports the president so much that he or she is willing to overlook the clear unconstitutionality of the Incumbent Protection Act. The president ignored his oath of office and deliberately signed an unconstitutional piece of legislation as part of some well-concealed strategy? Please.
"If you're 'proud he's your President' why don't you try supporting him instead of bashing him.

He's smarter than you are. He knows what he's doing.

And he hasn't betrayed anyone."

Translation: President Bush is smarter than his critics. We should trust him without so much as a whimper of criticism regarding any unconstitutional legislation he may force down our throats. He hasn't betrayed anyone but the American people, so back off.
"There are many of us who have chosen to STILL support the President even though we may disagree with some of the things he's done. Where is the reality in expecting the President to agree with you on absolutely everything he does? It's nowhere. Because that reality does not exist no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves that it does.

But consider this. Think back two years ago... and now think of what the alternative could have been. Cripe, even Rosie O'Donnell admits she didn't like GWB, but even she supports him now. I am simply amazed that it takes one issue, one issue, to dismay so many people."

Perhaps the "one issue" that dismays so many people is the fact that the president we are expected to support has violated the very solemn oath he swore to keep, that being his promise to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. Say what you want about Clinton. Play the "What if Gore were elected" game if you want. That was then, this is now. We have a president in office who essentially told America, "This law may be unconstitutional but I'm signing it anyway."

Has anyone read the statement on FreeRepublic's main page? It reads as follows:

Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
I always thought standing for smaller government meant just that, whether that means criticizing a Democrat or Republican administration. We need to ask ourselves one question: are we for smaller government and more freedom? If the answer is "Yes," then act accordingly. Let's not fall into the trap that says we must support the liberal policies of a president at all costs simply because he's not as liberal as a Democrat.

..."If you want to blame somebody, blame Lay, Skilling and Fastow for their greed in deciding to take a boring gas company and convert it into a commodity speculation scheme that went bad, which they covered up with securities fraud"...

And you feel insulted when someone calls you Clintonesque! Sheesh.... another 'my dog ate the homework' kids!!!

I am impressed.....

I'm pissed at President Bush for this but I'm not voting for a rat nor will I vote for a third party star wars bar scene type. But I want President Bush to know that he screwed the pooch.

However, if he was going to break his word, which he undoubtedly did, he should have addressed why he was breaking his word with his base, thats us.

He gets points for giving McNut and the three mouseketeers the back of his hand by not inviting them to the dog and pony show.

But he loses points because he went along with the federalization of the keystone cops.

My vote for President goes to the man I want to be Commander in Chief when it hits the fan and in that I am not at all disappointed. He has done a great job.

To make a long story short, he needs some better advice. He didn't even have to sign this. He could have allowed it to become law without his signature.

OK, I'm done.

I used all the small words in my vocabulary just for you. In order to go lower I would have to grunt but I don't know what grunt dialect you understand.

Personally don't think that 1/8 of these whiners voted for President Bush in the first place. Just much bloviating!

That's your error...if anybody has seen me post over time they know I'm one of the most persistent at calling out 3rd party conservatives and the conspiracy gangs...but this issue is indeed a bit more political than just tarrifs etc......and many of us not only voted for Bush, but gave money to many R groups and campaigned actively.

I think the fact that many of you idolizors of Bush dont even see a distinction between the other Bush waffles and this one says more about the Bush at any cost crew than it does about us.

I'm sorry, but I really don't care if you are impressed or not. The Commander in Chief and the adults have some serious work to do.

This issue is really minor given what has happened since 9-11 and what is happening tonight. This is not a socialist country and you are hysterical over a not very important issue. You don't know what the oath means; I suspect you never took it. You don't want to understand the Constitution or politics, then don't.

Good night and God Bless.

Is this a FRee Republic or not?

I respect our president--he's the first man in eight years than I can respect. However, he is continually playing into the hands of the RATS. I will acknowledge this may be a political strategy--we'll see.

But, we folk, who are still out here thinking. have the right to criticize his policies. That is what our republic is about.

If we can't be critical of our government, then we should probably all go to DU where they swallow every piece of garbage in toto.

Dear heart.....when your House and your Senate were in the majority, i.e., 95 - 2000, they tried to outdo the Pervert in spending....didn't you ever watch Pete Domenici brag how much more the GOP was spending on education--even more than the Pervert asked for? Something to be proud of .....

Oh, and we can't leave out John Kasish, as House Budget Committee Chair.....$49 billion of 'our' money is just chump change to these folks....yep, something else to be proud of.

Continue to be proud as we slide evermore over the precipse of the socialist cliff....the only thing you can say in defense of this is 'well, at least we're going slower than the Democrats would have taken us'....yeah, something to be really proud of.

Luis, instead of throwing personal insults why dont you inform everybody why you think CFR is such a good bill, or why the messenger and bill signer is breaking his campaign promise after signing the bill.

"Luis, instead of throwing personal insults..."

Shouldn't you be directing yourself at the author of the thread, and initiator of the personal insults?

I'm simply responding to HIS personal insults.

Gee, now if we could only get 600 or 700 people to AGREE on what's constitutional, eh? Fat chance. That's what the USSC is for!

Like two dung beetles (congress, and now the executive) rolling their prize toward the Supremes. Hopefully, it won't pass the smell test,-but if it does.....

Blame it on the voters, they're voting for socialism and have for some time. Our representitives reflect this fact. Neither the voters or reps give a crap about the constitution, never have, maybe never will.

It's called "being screwed from the start" and America is sleeping, afraid to awaken to the difficult choices that lie ahead if her republic is to survive. That's what's so great about FR. Ain't nobody sleeping here! If nothing else, this is the goddam alarm clock!! :-)

Hi, Betty. Where ya been?

Yeah, I haven't seen this much moaning in a long time. They have a thing called a ballot. We'll see what they do with it come election day, 2004. Maybe they'll put up Buchanan or Keyes. Or maybe Stassen's still alive. If they sit on their hands, that's their right. As I said before, I don't think W will need them or Nader to win in '04. Seems like the gauntlet has been thrown. Bring it!

Thanks for starting this thread. I started to do this myself after one of the Bush-Bots pinged me to come to the other thread. I was a good boy there,so I didn't post anything. All they want to hear is "Don't worry,be happy!"

I will admit to being a reluctant supporter of Bubba-2,but I DID vote for him. My reluctance was based mostly on him being the son of his idiot father, and his stated softness on 2nd Amendment issues.

What made me first realize I had made a mistake was when he granted China PERMANENT "Most Favored Nation" trade status. THere is and was absolutely NO excuse for this, other than his uncle Prescott Bush being in business with the Chinese slave owners. What finally tore it beyond salvage was his creating the new Cabinet position and bureaucracy called the "Office of Homeland Security". Right away this convinced me that at heart he is a fascist son-of-a-bitch who is working for a world-wide corporate government. He's probably mad because the title of "Office of Reich Security" had already been taken. The fact that he had this all planned-out and ready to roll on 12 Sept tells me he was licking his chops and waiting for a excuse to give birth to that puppy,as well as to the so-called "Patriot's Act".

I have no doubt at all that the Republic would have been safer with Goober as president. EVERYBODY things he is stupid, and most people who know him hate him, even his fellow Dims. No way in hell he could have gotten 10% of the crap passed that Bubba-2 got without any real discussion.

Uh, Homeland Security is not a Cabinet position. Just a matter of keeping the facts straight, if that's still possible here.
