You must have both missed the instructions: take your political discussion to the appropriate thread.

Freeper, Wright is right made this post on another thread and I think it sums up perfectly why Dubya signed the CFR bill today:

This is why Dubya signed CFR and will allow it to be struck down by the courts, rather than vetoing it. The Dems and the Media have not had ANYTHING stick to this President - and had he vetoed CFR, they were all geared up for an all-out assault on him the likes of which you've never seen. Non-stop, wall-to-wall. CFR would have been the latest thing for them to try to get traction by ceaselessly flogging the issue. By signing, without ceremony nor flourish, a certainly-doomed bill, the media gets their next big cataclysm defused, McCain doesn't get his Rose Garden, the courts toss it, AND the DEMS have LOST THE ISSUE. The Dems were really only for CFR if it would actually hurt the GOP - otherwise, they only wanted it as a demagogic issue. When the courts toss CFR, the Dems will have lost both the issue AND the battle. Bush has wisely not squandered not one penny in political capital, because, when the Dems and the Media get their sorry hats handed to them by the courts, it won't have been Dubya that did it.

Pretty damn smart, if ya ask me. And, basic West Texas street fighting. Always get someone else to take the fall for you, keep your clothes clean. This issue is now off the radar screen until the court battle, and then it won't be anything the media can tar him with.

And I'll add this.....GWB wants to get a majority in the Senate so he can get his Judicial nominees confirmed...he's focused on the 'long term' victory....and that's just fine with me.
