The Official Bush Accomplishment List
Miss Marple | March 27, 2002 | Miss Marple

Posted on 03/27/2002 9:22:46 AM PST by Miss Marple

I think it would be nice to collect a list of all of the things President Bush has accomplished thus far in his term. In an effort to provide FAIR and BALANCED coverage to President Bush's administration, I thought interested Freepers could post accomplishments, both large and small, which they appreciate.

Please do not hesitate to list EO's, roll-backs of EO's, regulation changes with which you are familiar, etc.

All positive accomplishments are welcome. If you have negative comments, please post them on the other thread. Thank you.

1. The 2-3% tax cut backloaded over ten years weighted toward net tax consumers at the expense of net tax payors, combined with the 5% increase in payroll withholding taxes (taxed twice--they're matched by your employer) and the largest budget ever submitted by a U.S. president--with an additional cabinet-level department for good measure. 2. What missile defense shield?

You are right slight of hand wins!

You can get your questions answered tomorrow. This thread was posted for ACCOMPLISHMENTS, not for debate and complaints. Complaints go on the "Official Bush Cave List." That way there is a concise list of each accomplishment or cave. Send me a list of your questions tomorrow and I will answer them. But not tonight, and not on this thread.

Actually, I have decided their posting here has benefits.

1. We can see that there are a great many who are rude.

2. Their complaints can easily be compared to the LONG list of accomplishments.

3. We now know that almost none of them can read directions or is capable of following said directions. Otherwise they would be on the "Official Bush Cave List" thread, to which I even provided a handy link.

Good addition!

Bush alerted us to the Axis of Evil!. Is that on the list ?

I just posted this piece :

Bush is right; evil exists in world

No sure how to say it, but his articulation of Evil is a big deal!

How about this?

On his first full day of work, President Bush signed a memorandum banning international family planning organizations based outside the United States from receiving federal U.S. funds if they "perform or actively promote" abortions. "It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion, either here or abroad," Mr. Bush wrote in a statement to the U.S. Agency for International Development, which oversees family-planning aid to foreign countries. It was Mr. Bush's first major policy action since becoming president on Saturday.

Bush seems to be a love-him-or-hate-him kind of person, with middle ground not possible.

Let me be the first to claim the middle ground, by saying I neither love him nor hate him for what he's done while POTUS. I'm not real wild about some of the things he's done (CFR -- yes, I've heard the reasons, his decision on stem cells didn't go as far as I would have liked, I haven't seen him accomplish anything, or push for anything legislation-wise regarding ending abortion, or even partial-birth abortion, his "tax cut" and "tax rebate" did not enthrall me -- someone on here reported that the "tax cut" puts us at still-too-high levels, etc.)...

However, I appreciate and admire his leadership during our present war, I support his method of delegating the tasks of society and not being full of hubris to deny that he can benefit from the wisdom of other people who have more knowledge in certain areas than he does (cf., Cheney, Powell, C. Rice), while still being in unquestioned control. I also think he has brough a sense of decency back to teh White House.

And finally, I understand that my "problems" with what he's done so far are not easily fixable, and are problems that will take a long time to right -- i.e., he can't just wave his hand and end abortions, or snap his fingers and lower taxes to an appropriate level, etc. I trust that he's doing what he can and what is pragmatic, given all the circumstances, however, I would like to see a little more evidence of his devotion to conservative ends (however, I also realize that he can't come out and say, "Ok folks, I'm still trying to end abortion, but it's going to take this, this, that and that, before we can do it." He strikes me as someone who is working towards conservative goals as though it were a chess match, and trying not to let the liberals know what his end-game really is, or how he plans to achieve it.

Also, off the top of my head, I wish he wasn't so seemingly pro-immigration (what with courting Vicente Fox), and I wish he wasn't so free trade-ish. But I realize that's his position, and that of many of the neo-cons in the GOP, so it's something I will have to stomach.

And I should also be honest and say that I didn't vote for him, but probably will in the next election (provided that CFR doesn't somehow come back to bite conservative advocacy groups in the butt).

Well you win some and you lose some..I did vote for him the first time around and WILL NOT the next time

A reversal of the food stamp law, a shredding of privacy rights, encouragement of illegal immigration and the CRF....all make a stay at home day a no brainer for me should he run again (or maybe a third party vote)

Sent NASA Administrator Dan Goldin packing. De-throned NASA JSC center director, George Abbey (too back he wasn't indicted for years of corruption and other abuses of authority.)

Conversely hired breath of fresh air NASA Adminstrator, Sean O'Keefe. Institutional changes are already in motion that will get NASA's buget under control, while improving worker morale.

(or maybe a third party vote)

Well, that's what I voted during this past election (for Buchanan), and I don't regret voting for him, since I was pleased to be able to cast my vote with a clear conscience for the man I *wanted* to be president, rather than the best practical alternative or rather than just so Gore wouldn't win.

However, although Bush has done some things that I strongly disagree with (like those you mentioned), I like to hope that he's got a larger plan in mind that is more consistent with conservative principles (his stance on immigration is particularly nauseating though).
