Just heard it on the news. Might be nothing, but motorist saw a driver stop his car and dump the pail in the water, then reported it to the police. Reservoir is shut off from it's customers for the time being.
The pail has been retrieved and sections of the water are separated from the rest of the water by some method they didnt reveal.

I think I heard of this before, Oh...
"Who threw the overalls
In Mrs. Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so he
Shouted all the louder.
"It's a rotten trick that's true,
I can lick the Mick that threw
The overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder."

You can't be serious. Even the warm spots in a swimming pool eventually spread.

I suspect this may be a contender for "biggest False Alarm since 9/11" posted on FR, and that's against FIERCE competition. I think the best previous one were the women who called the police and got a HAZMAT team out to Kent Narrows in Maryland because some painters dumped some plaster in a parking lot at a restaurant, during the Anthrax scare.
I think this being in "Breaking News" is fairly ridiculous.
My guess will be someone who forgot to dump their minnows after fishing, realized he wasn't going fishing again soon, and stopped and dumped the minnows in the reservoir.

You're right, it might be nothing. But, with four Pakistani's on the loose,(plus who knows how many more middle-eastern terrorist wanna-be's - thank you INS), I'm happy that anybody noticing anything remotely suspicious takes the time to report it!

Umm, excuse me folks, but our government has asked us all to be "on alert" and report suspicious activity just like this. Yes, there will be many false alarms. But we do know for a fact that there are not just a few, but perhaps tens of thousands of people out there that would like to kill as many of us as possible by any means possible, and hundreds of millions of others cheering them on. This may be a big joke to you, but I assure you that our enemies are not joking, they are deadly serious.

If it's just a pail, and the reservoir serves more than five houses, then there's no danger. A pail of even the most toxic stuff is going to be so diluted that it couldn't do any harm. I guess if the pail was filled with Plutonium it could do some harm, but if that's the case, you don't need to dump it in the water...

Why bother to dump it in the water? Why not just open the car door and pour it out? I can see where someone would report it. Better safe than sorry.

Like Plutonium maybe?

sections of the water are separated from the rest of the water by some method they didnt reveal. Seen Charleton Heston around there lately wearing a robe and carrying a staff?
