USO Canteen FReeper Style....Monday...March 25,2002

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Thanks.

MUD PUDDLES AND DANDELIONS

When I look at a patch of dandelions
I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard.
My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me
I see a smelly dirty person who probably wants money and I look away.
My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love (I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm) so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids "feel" the beat and move to it. They sing out the words.
If they don't know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it.
I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I see a mud puddle I step around it.
I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets.
My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with .

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from ?
Enjoy the little things in life for one day you may look back and realize
they "were" the big things.

Hi Cobby, I agree with you. Oh how I wish and pray that ALL of America would respect and appreciate our Veterans, our troops serving now. It is my biggest wish and constant prayer.

The response we have been getting from the Free Republic USO Freeper Canteen has been so fantastic. FReepers are so wonderful . Everyday I get emails Freep mail and my other email from the troops, and family of those serving. The lurkers, the ones that post, so many. It has me crying a lot in tremendous appreciation of their hearts.

We are FRee and safe because of those that have served and serve now. How anyone could not be grateful for that always shocks me and is like a knife in my heart.

Thank you Cobby for serving and for still serving as a FReeper to make America what it should be. Your support of the FReeper USO Canteen is so much appreciated too.

Everyone here is why it makes a difference. It takes all of us and it has my heart busting with joy to see the tremendous response.

I agree LadyX, I have a list of threads to do, and Billie and I are trying to take each area of those that are serving and you can count on that we are also going to do a thread of the loved ones as well.
LadyX, we did have one of the wives, I forget what the date is, but it was for the wives of those that are serving. Because they truly are serving too. Thanks LadyX for serving and for all you do my friend. (( hug )))

To a Viet Nam Nurse from the wife of a soldier who was wounded:

"most of all thank you for the care you gave my husband when he was wounded in Vietnam.
And, thank you for all you gave to those who needed your care so much, when you were in Vietnam.
I know I speak for the families and loved ones of those who made it home
and for the families and loved ones of those who did not make it home:
the sacrifices made by you and all of the medical personnel
who served in Vietnam may not have been glorified; however, your presence was and continues
to be held most dear by those for whom you cared and by their families and loved ones."

Thank you for letting us know you are here with us. You know what a great family this is and we welcome your visibility.

(I wonder if you are a blonde?)

A noted psychiatrist was a guest at a blonde gathering, and his hostess naturally broached the subject in which the doctor was most at ease. "Would you mind telling me, Doctor," she asked, "how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?"

"Nothing is easier," he replied. "You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If he hesitates, that puts you on the track."

"What sort of question?"

"Well, you might ask him, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?'

The blonde thought a moment, then said with a nervous laugh, "You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history."

giggle. That is such a cute story about the beach Sam.I adore children, they are so very special.

FallGuy and I do things here with a place called Child Haven. It is for abused children. We take them for outings. To movies, to shop, for lunch and bring the whole place goodies during the year . The kids there are so dear and so open for love and kindness.

It is cute when we bring them to the house, I have bears everywhere and I tell them the bears names and what hobbies the bears are up to when we are not watching. The children giggle and say..." You are a big kid huh" and I say oh yes we should get older but always let the child in us be around forver.

Thanks again Sam this was so cute, I can just see the child saying that with great concern.

Dearest Snow Bunny:
As I go through and read the posts on the Canteen every day, sometimes stretching to four hundred or more, I'm amazed at your determination to answer each poster with a comment showing your love for each one and your appreciation for their support.
You are something else, gal!

I nominate your fingers for the FREEPER FINGERS AWARD!
As a reward you will receive a jar of soothing balm to apply to those tired little fingers at the end of a day of posting.
I'm going to bring it to you!!

I love ya, gal!

WHAT'S AN OLD GEEZER

"Geezers" (slang for an old man) are easy to spot:

At sporting events, during the playing of the National Anthem, Old Geezers hold their caps over their hearts and sing without embarrassment.

They know the words and believe in them. Old Geezers remember World War I, the Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy and Hitler.

They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing, not to mention Vietnam.

If you bump into an Old Geezer on the sidewalk, he will apologize. If you pass an Old Geezer on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady.

Old Geezers trust strangers and are courtly to women. Old Geezers hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.

Old Geezers get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth on TV or in movies. Old Geezers have moral courage. They seldom brag unless it's about their grandchildren.

It's the Old Geezers who know our great country is protected, not by politicians or police, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.

This country needs Old Geezers with their decent values. We need them now more than ever. Thank God for Old Geezers!
