Darn it Bunny, I got sumthin’ in my eyes now . . .

My late uncle (1920-1998), was in Medical School when WWII broke out. He enlisted in the Navy and finished Med. school with the Navy footing the bill. On graduation he was sent to basic training and a short Officer’s School then into the Pacific Theater as a field surgeon. He served in China and on some of the contested islands in the Pacific with the Marines. I am not sure which ones because he would never talk about those times. The only thing he would say was that on one island the sand crabs were so bad that you could not sleep without being bitten. To the day he died he could not eat crabs.

I miss the old buzzard.

What a special person he is. I thank him so much for serving our country . He may be in a wheel chair but he stands VERY tall indeed.

Thank You for this tribute to those who risk their lives to save their fellow Brothers. And let us not forget the nurses who have comforted those in their final moments. My heart is sad reading this thread, but at the same time honored to be able to help pay tribute to these men and women.

Bump to that Tonkin. My respect grows and grows the more I read of the men and women in our military.

I really appreciate all the work you do on these threads! One minor complaint however; I think if you change the format to be "ALL NAVY...ALL THE TIME!" you would have a better thread. (That's not to take anything away from the lesser services, mind you...) LOL!
