For too long we have allowed the EU subsidize a wide range of exports to the U.S. Perhaps George W. is going to put a halt to that practice. I say he's doing the right thing.
But where do those subsidies come from? They are not free you know. In other words, they are taking money out of productive industries to pump into unproductive ones.
We win.
But now Bush has said -- Wait a second! We want to lose too.

But now Bush has said -- Wait a second! We want to lose too. What George W. is saying seems straightforward to me. We aren't going to subsidize everyone who trades with us. It's a new time and the rules are being changed. I don't believe tariffs are what's on our President's mind. In my opinion he's interested in getting rid of all the inappropriate arrangements we've allowed that really put the U.S. at a disadvantage in world trade.
