WOULD CONDI RICE AND COLIN POWELL BE "PRO-CHOICE" ON SLAVERY?

"Condoleeza Rice, Bush's much-expected pick as national security adviser, has described herself as ‘reluctantly pro-choice.’

" ‘What if I described myself as reluctantly pro-slavery?’ [Douglas] Scott [President of Life Decisions International] retorted. ‘I mean, we are all reluctant to make hard choices.’ ...

Read the start of a thread before commenting.

It's in terms of consideration of Rice as VP. If that isn't a relevant connection in which to consder one's views on infanticide, then I wonder when you think it would be.

Howard Phillips has made himself irrelevant and should generally be ignored; however, I agree with the point: Rice must clarify her views if we're to accept her in VP or similar slot. And there is no excuse for supporting abortion.

And Colin Powell has proven again and again that he is an imbecile when it comes to a wide variety of moral issues, including abortion.

Thanks for the bump. This is certainly disappointing, but not unexpected.

The unfortunate thing about political parties is that their respective politicians do not embrace a universal party point of view.

We have to be very much aware of the person not the party.

Can someone point me to a reasonable source indicating one of these three are being considered as VEEP material in '04? Please?

No reasonable source. But there have been some Condi for VP lovefests here on freerepublic. Even though no one knows where she stands on social issues, taxes, gov't growth, etc.

I like Rice in her present job. There are a lot of good republicans with elected experience who could be the next vp should Cheney not run.

Yeah,he's a morally bankrupt individual who paraded his whore girlfriend in front of his wife and kids. He's a pro-homosexual,pro-abortion piece of human debris.

Correct.

Being pro-choice reveals that a person is EVIL. And evil people do not belong in ANY position of authority or power

I thought only liberals demonized the opposition. The truth is that a large number of "pro-choice" people are not evil, but ignorant. They don't know the facts, the alternatives, or understand their implications. I think a comparison can be made to white people living in jim crow south. Not all were evil, many were ignorant. Living their lives without a thought for their neighbors' welfare, or if their laws were really just.

I have to respectfully disagree. What exactly has Cheney done to halt abortions since becoming Vice President? Has he even given any speeches about the issue?

The marching orders come from the top. It's G.W. Bush that will head the ticket in 2004 and *his* position will be the de facto administration position. And even this is of limited power while the SCOTUS stands firmly on Roe v. Wade.

I am pro-life. I want as many pro-lifers as possible at the top of the administration. But I fear more a government run by incompetents, no matter what views they hold on abortion, than a government run by sterling individuals who happen to disagree with me on this one issue (unless they are assigned to positions where their stand on abortion will, indeed, directly affect the issue).

I know a lot of people fear that, once a Republican VP is pro-choice, they become the new party leader on the issue should the president leave office by death or by proxy. It is a legitimate concern. But on the office alone, H.H.S. Sec'y Tommy Thompson, Atty General John Ashcroft and Surgeon General Satcher have far more power to actually help or damage the pro-life cause than the vice president does. And Satcher is a Clinton mole. I can only assume his race is what prevents Bush from firing the guy.

We would have been soo much better off with David Dinkins as Mayor. For that matter, President Bush should have kept Sandy Berger as his National Security Advisor!

Exactly. So if something were to happen to the president, or when the president's two terms were up and the VP would want to run (and of course would have the inside track), you'd want the VP to be prolife.

WOULD CONDI RICE AND COLIN POWELL BE "PRO-CHOICE" ON SLAVERY?

Depends. If they were born white or free blacks, they probably would be reluctantly pro-slavery. If they were born slaves, they would be strong abolitionists.

"WOULD CONDI RICE AND COLIN POWELL BE "PRO-CHOICE" ON SLAVERY?"

Irrelevant to the question of abortion. If you don't like Rice and Powell and their policies/influence then just say so.

Personally, I find them less dangerous than I had anticipated when nominated. Powell was obviously much more a PR appointment for the media's benefit than anything else. I expected a little more from Rice but have been disappointed somewhat. Both are extremely overrated for top-level positions. I think this is one of the reasons Rumsfeld is playing such a strong role in the Bush administration. Rice and Powell are both weak players in actual practice. So the Secretary of Defense has become more prominent. Rumsfeld is fully ready for primetime. Rice is still inexperienced and Powell's experience never did him much good.

Considering that neither of them is especially effective in their appointed jobs, why does their opinion on abortion matter much? Especially when it's apparent that blacks won't vote Bush for any reason at all.

40 million babies have been killed by abortion since Roe v Wade.

Well, Condi and Colin should be happy then. The murdered children were disproportionately black. It's well-known that Planned Parenthood always planned no parenthood for certain minority groups. Condi and Colin have done their bit too.

Being basically liberal, they deserve as much credit as any other black leaders who are the Judas goats leading their own people to slaughter in our federally subsidized abortion mills.

Hitler was just a little impatient, it seems. He could have learned something from us.

Their positions are important because one of them may be Bush's VP during his second term, and thereby become the presidential frontrunner for 2008.

It will be too late to complain after Bush has already made such a move, so we need to let it be known now that it would be completely unacceptable.

I must be dense.

I see nothing in the article regarding VP choices.

However, if you mean Diago's "speculation", that's all it is.

I must have missed the "Dick Cheney is out" meeting/memo.

At that time(if it exists at all and not just in the mind of tin-foilers), we are all free to re-visit the issue and discuss it maturely.

I'm sorry, but like I said, this is too much "Chicken Little" for me.

If Cheney steps down due to his poor health, his replacement willbe named at the same press conference. At that time, it will be too late and we will have a pro-abortion VP. And believe me, when that happens there will be very little mature discussion around here.
